App Description

Trailblazer Guides (www.trailblazer-guides.com) brings you Trailblazer's South Downs Way smartphone guide for your hike, bicycle ride or horseback ride on the South Downs Way. This app is a companion to our South Downs Way book guide, covering the 100-mile (160 km) South Downs Way from Winchester to Eastbourne, including both the coastal route and the alternate inland bridleway from Alfriston to Eastbourne.

Trailblazer's South Downs Way app is fully compatible with our book guide. It uses a combination of your mobile device's GPS, downloaded topo maps, and the Apple Maps interface to accurately locate your position on the South Downs Way. No mobile service? Not a problem -- your phone's GPS pinpoints your location on top of topo maps downloaded as part of the app.

A bright red line indicates the location of the main trail on the map. Points of interest and distance markers are plotted on the map. An elevation profile shows trail distance vs elevation and plots your current location on the Way. Each point of interest is plotted on the profile and is clickable, opening to a detail page. A guidebook lists every point of interest in order by distance along the Way.

Each point of interest includes a detail page, providing further details about that particular point of interest. Details include:
**a reference to the Trailblazer Guide book version
**its distance along the Way (in miles or kilometres) and elevation (in feet or metres)
**photographs
**a detailed description, including historical, cultural and geographical background information where applicable
**distance to the next camping area and the next town
**a Trail Register where you may post comments and read other users' comments

The types of points of interest include:
**Villages, towns and cities near the Way
**Camping areas
**Car parks
**Navigational waypoints, such as roads, junctions, gates, stiles, bridges
**Parks and other nature areas
**Food shops, pubs, restaurants
**Accommodation
**Train stations and bus stops

The South Downs Way is a 100-mile (160km) National Trail that follows the line of chalk hills stretching from Winchester in Hampshire across Sussex to Eastbourne. Walking the length of the Downs is the best way to experience this beautiful landscape with its mixture of rolling hills, steep hanging woodland and windswept fields. You'll also pass picture-postcard villages with welcoming pubs, thatched cottages and quintessentially English country gardens.
