Pikmin Bloom players can now complete Weekly Challenges

Posted by Nitisha Upadhye on May 1st, 2022

Pikmin Bloom will be adding a new weekly challenge feature to allow players to play with their friends. This is the biggest update of the game since launch, and players have one whole week to complete each challenge with their friends.

Players will be able to tackle weekly tasks starting from April 28th.

What is this weekly challenge all about?

The challenge is limited to a group of five players. However, solo players can also participate and complete the challenges. You can sign up for a challenge as a solo player, or with your friends.

As a part of the challenge, players with their buddies will be walking a certain number of steps. You will be rewarded with nectar and other items after completing the challenge.

The developers expect to get more players involved in Niantic's most recent mobile games with this challenge. And, it’s perfect timing too, as players from Northern Hemisphere can enjoy the weekly challenges during the spring season.

How to earn rewards in Pikmin Bloom weekly challenge?

You can start ticking off the tasks with the new widget on the app's home screen. You’ll want to, if you haven’t yet, add friends by entering the 12-digit code or QR code with the friend's function tab in the app.

Here you can see the avatars and incremental steps done by each buddy. You’ll be able to see their real-time progress here too.

To complete the weekly challenge, you need to meet the total number of steps given in the theme. You will be rewarded nectar once you reach it. Don't lose heart if you don't qualify, you will still be showered with huge participation bonuses.

The developers are expecting to introduce more challenges in the future. There might also be a variety introduced beyond walking such as through planting flowers and other items.

But, for now, it’s well worth adding a bunch of friends who get out and use the app a lot, to make sure that your team wins the first challenge.

GDC 2015 - Piloteer is Whitaker Trebella's Latest Project, and it's Definitely Something DIfferent

Posted by Rob Rich on March 3rd, 2015
+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

You know Pivvot, right? Of course you do. You're probably also familiar with Polymer. And if you haven't played either you probably should, because they're excellent. Well, the mind behind both of these Editor's Choice games, Whitaker Trebella, is at it again with yet another game that begins with a "P" - Piloteer.

Piloteer is about an inventor who loves (loves) jetpacks. She loves jetpacks so much that she's decided to make it her personal mission to convince a society that hates them to, well, love them. And the way she'll do that is by completing a bunch of crazy jetpack-related tasks that may or may not be likely to result in a horrible crash. Imagine trying to fly a jetpack in QWOP and you'll have a general idea of how it plays, actually.

Piloteer should hopefully be seeing an App Store release in May, at which point you can rest assured that we'll have a review raring to go.

AppSpy Puts the Watch_Dogs Companion: ctOS Mobile Through its Paces

Like most gamers, you've probably heard about Watch_Dogs coming out yesterday. What you may not have heard about is that the game has received a companion app titled Watch_Dogs Companion: ctOS Mobile, and that it allows iOS users to directly affect console and PC users' games by taking over control of the police. Personally I think that sounds awesome. James and Peter from AppSpy apparently did, too. At least they thought it was awesome enough to record themselves playing it for your amusement.

You can check out the Watch_Dogs Companion: ctOS Mobile video from AppSpy below, with the app available as a free download.

Plague Inc. has Mutated Yet Again - We're All Doomed Even More than Usual

Posted by Rob Rich on April 23rd, 2014
+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

Plague Inc. has mutated for a whopping eighth time, bringing all sorts of new horribleness to the popular plague simulator.

The "Mega" mutation features an all new "Mega-Brutal" difficulty setting for those who might think that regular old Brutal is too easy, three new cheats, and four new scenarios. I'm particularly curious about the one involving trying to destroy the world with a 30,000 year old virus.

You can grab Plague Inc. off the App Store for $0.99, and

1. “Mega-Brutal” difficulty – for players who thought Brutal was Casual!
- Experience Plague Inc.’s toughest challenge yet and try to infect a world with random medical checks, genetic drift and research tech improvements. Adapt or die…
2. Mega new Cheat Modes – 3 new cheat modes are added which will all give you very different Plague Inc. experiences.
- Shuffle Strain: All evolutions are mixed up
- Turbo Strain: Starting country is 100% infected
- Lucky Dip Strain: Start with 5 random evolutions
3. Use cheats on any plague type (and even combine different cheat modes!)
4. New Scenarios – 4 new scenarios give players brand new challenges from infecting the world with a 30,000 year old virus through to surviving in a world with artificial organs
5. New events and achievements
6. Performance improvements for all devices
7. Minor game balance / AI improvements / bug fix
