Paladins Strike guide - How to achieve team victory

Posted by Campbell Bird on May 7th, 2018

Paladins Strike is an interesting hybrid between a hero shooter and MOBA. If you go into the game not knowing this, it could be hard to know exactly how you should be playing it. With these tips though, you’ll have a solid handle on the game in no time.

More shooter than MOBA

Although Paladins Strike may appear to be more of a MOBA than a shooter, the opposite is actually true. The only real MOBA bits in this game are the camera angle, your ability to upgrade your hero as you level up, and the presence of tall grass, which you can use to hide in to ambush enemies.

That said, Paladins Strike still isn’t a full-on shooter. You have limited shots of your primary weapon that recharge over time, so you need to be careful about how often to use your regular attacks. So, though it may be tempting to try and run your gun your way through the game, you should focus more on your hero powers and teamwork to win matches.

Mini Golf King update hits the green with new features in tow

Posted by 148Apps Staff on March 30th, 2018
+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

Having swung its way onto iOS and Android devices over a year ago, arcade multiplayer title Mini Golf King has returned from the clubhouse with all-new content in tow.

Bluehole PNIX’s free-to-play offering already provided a quirky twist on the popular sport by pitting players against more than 30 trap-filled, bonus-packed courses, and the game’s latest update has added an all-new gameplay mode and an additional power-up to the equation.

Hole-in-one Challenge, a new way to play Mini Golf King, is the update’s headline feature. In this mode, players are pitted against a series of courses where the ball must be sunk in one shot. Racking up a hole in one will fire them through to the next level and rewards will be dished out each time.

The Golf Pin power-up, which can be purchased from the store or found in select chests, is another new addition and it will help players improve their game by adding extra wind resistance, distance and other enhancements to every shot they take.

Ready to conquer the greens and the fairways? Mini Golf King is available to download for free from the App Store and Google Play, and the new update is ready to install now.

Armello guide - How to make sense of the madness

Our rating: starstarstarhalfstarblankstar :: A SOLID BOARD GAME :: Read Review »

Armello is a richly detailed and complex board game that layers on a ton mechanics and victory conditions such that no two games are alike. A lot of this has to do with the fact that the game uses dice rolls, card draws, and other chance-based systems to determine outcomes. When you first start playing Armello, you might think the key to winning is simply getting lucky, but that’s where you’d be mistaken. Check out some of these tips to help you make the randomness work for you.

Pick the right character

There’s quite a few different characters in Armello, but each of them have their own unique stats and abilities. When playing, you should look to play as characters that help you achieve the goals you tend to pursue in any given match.

Do you usually find yourself dueling other characters? Choose Thane for his high combat stats and his ability to pierce armor with burned sword cards. If you prefer messing with your opponents in subtler ways? Perhaps play as Mercurio to steal their gold. If you’re not sure who to play as just yet, you can also opt to play as Amber while you try to figure things out, as she’s a decent all-around character.

In just over a week, Epic Games has made a flurry of announcements. First, they revealed that Fortnite—their ultra-popular PUBG competitor—is coming to mobile. This was followed by brief sign-up period for interested beta testers before sending out their first round of invites yesterday afternoon. Fortunately, we were able to get our hands on one of these early invites, so we can clear the air on exactly what Fortnite on mobile is like.

Pixel Plex Guide - How to Build Better Together

Posted by Campbell Bird on March 13th, 2018

Pixel Plex is the latest city builder that has come to the App Store, and it takes a pretty different tact than the ones that came before it. Instead of being in charge of your own city by yourself, you have to work together with other players to build your city’s greatness, one block at a time. Given this new approach to this kind of game, Pixel Plex can be pretty tough to wrap your mind around, but with these tips, you’ll be on top of things in no time.

Prioritize Resources

In Pixel Plex, each player initially starts with one city block of land to work with, so you really need to make the most of it. Although there may be some variety in the things you can purchase and build on this land, none are as important as buildings that generate resources. Buildings like Lumber Mills, Concrete Factories, and Steel Mills not only produce revenue, but also the raw materials you need to do just about anything else in the game, so focus on those first, and all the other stuff later.

7 Wonders Guide - Should You Buy The Leaders Expansion?

Posted by Campbell Bird on March 9th, 2018

The fantastic mobile version of 7 Wonders just got updated with an expansion that adds Leaders to the game. This new content adds a whole layer of depth to the game, but before you spend $1.99 to buy it blindly, check out this breakdown of exactly what you’ll be paying for:

What do you get?

In the 7 Wonders expansion, you get access to the content from the board game’s Leaders Expansion. What this means is you have access to a whole new type of card (i.e. Leaders), a new Wonder, and four new Guild cards to play with. In all, you get 40 new cards in the form of 36 Leaders, which can give you special bonuses in each game, Guilds that build off of the Leaders cards, and the ability to play as Rome, who’s wonder also plays into Leader mechanics. All in all, it’s a pretty hefty addition.

Airdrop into mayhem in Grand Battle Royale from GameSpire

If you’re a fan of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), but lament the fact that you can’t play it on the go, then you’re in luck. Hong Kong developer GameSpire has released a brand new battle royale title for Android and iOS – Grand Battle Royale.

Of course, battle royale games aren’t unheard of on mobile, but most of them look identical. Grand Battle Royale eschews all that realism business for a playfully pixellated take on the genre. It’s like Minecraft plus guns, or PUBG built out of Lego.

The Battle of Polytopia Guide - Tips for Taking Over the World

Posted by Campbell Bird on February 23rd, 2018

The addition of multiplayer to The Battle of Polytopia has catapulted the game from a fun enough time waster to a fully-fledged 4X experience on your phone. We've been playing quite a few matches over the past week or so, and we've put together a list of tips to help you get a leg up against your fellow human players.

Pick the right civilization

The Battle of Polytopia presents a pretty simplified version of something like Civilization, but that doesn't mean strategic nuances aren't still important. Before you even start a match of Polytopia, consider who to play as to give yourself a leg up. Are you playing against a ton of opponents? Choose the Vengir for a quick military leg up. Want a slower start to your empire? Take advantage of the mountains usually afforded to the Xin-Xi.

Disc Drivin' 2 Guide - Tips for the Seasoned Slider

Posted by Campbell Bird on February 22nd, 2018

We're all still playing quite a bit of Disc Drivin' 2 over here at 148Apps, and we've gotten pretty good at it. Now that we've spent some more time with the game and unlocked more powerups, check out some of these more advanced tips:

Switch it up on the fly

So you may know you can switch between powerups in a match of Disc Drivin' 2, but did you know you can also do it while your disc is in motion? It operates the exact same way as when you're standing still, but you've got to be quick to change your powers and use them while on the move. This is a good skill to practice, because you switching from a boost to a brake at the right time to prevent a falloff could make the difference between winning and losing a match.

Vainglory just got bigger.

Super Evil Megacorp made its mobile MOBA into one of the leaders in its genre by concentrating on 3v3 matches that took many of the aspects people would expect to find andreducing them down to better suit touchscreen devices. But phones and tablets have come a long way since the game first launched, and gamers' expectations have risen as well.

Thus, Vainglory 5v5 is now a thing. Designed with extensive feedback from the game's community, the idea is that it builds upon what players already like and adds an extra layer of strategy and excitement. Super Evil has already made it clear that the new mode is the future of competitive play, so even though 3v3 is sticking around, everyone will want to brush up on the newer, bigger gameplay.
