Pixel Plex is the latest city builder that has come to the App Store, and it takes a pretty different tact than the ones that came before it. Instead of being in charge of your own city by yourself, you have to work together with other players to build your city’s greatness, one block at a time. Given this new approach to this kind of game, Pixel Plex can be pretty tough to wrap your mind around, but with these tips, you’ll be on top of things in no time.

Prioritize Resources

In Pixel Plex, each player initially starts with one city block of land to work with, so you really need to make the most of it. Although there may be some variety in the things you can purchase and build on this land, none are as important as buildings that generate resources. Buildings like Lumber Mills, Concrete Factories, and Steel Mills not only produce revenue, but also the raw materials you need to do just about anything else in the game, so focus on those first, and all the other stuff later.

Evict Residents

Pixel Plex is truly all about maximizing efficiency, and one of the best ways to do that is to hire people for jobs they are interested in working. If you find yourself in a situation where you have people mismatched with the jobs you have available, you don’t just have to deal with it. You can evict residents and have new ones move in who perhaps have the interests you are looking for. Be careful though. It may take some time to have new residents move in unless you have structures that increase your block's happiness, so be sure to build Playgrounds and Basketball Courts to attract new residents quickly.

Contribute to City Projects

There are definitely times where you want to hold onto your resources to upgrade all of your own things, but it helps everyone to share the wealth every once in a while. Each city in Pixel Plex has projects that—once completed—benefit everyone in your city. Completing these projects requires a tremendous amount of money though, so everyone needs to work together and donate money to get them done. If you’re able to complete them though, you can enjoy benefits like increased resource output, more skilled workers, or bonus profits on certain buildings.

Join Discord

As you are working with your fellow city planners in Pixel Plex, there come times when you may need to coordinate. The game itself has an in-game chat to encourage this, but it’s much easier to keep in touch with your fellow players via Discord. This is primarily because it ensures that no one misses any messages, as Pixel Plex’s chat doesn’t keep a permanent record of communications.
