If you’re a fan of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), but lament the fact that you can’t play it on the go, then you’re in luck. Hong Kong developer GameSpire has released a brand new battle royale title for Android and iOS – Grand Battle Royale.

Of course, battle royale games aren’t unheard of on mobile, but most of them look identical. Grand Battle Royale eschews all that realism business for a playfully pixellated take on the genre. It’s like Minecraft plus guns, or PUBG built out of Lego.

The basic premise is the same, though. On a far-flung, one-town island, you’re thrown together with other players, or rather airdropped in. Liberally sprinkled over the boarded-up town and surrounds are weapons, everything from shotguns to swords. True to the dog-eat-dog film that inspired the genre, you have to take out other players one by one with whatever arsenal you scavenge. As you trade bullets with rival players from all over the world, the map gradually shrinks, pushing you together to make sure nobody can hide from the fight.

Whether you come out on top, or end up splatted by some other blockhead, you’ll win a bit of cash after each round in Grand Battle Royale. That can be spent on different skins for your character, so you can stand out from the crowd (or blend in – camouflage might be more sensible, all things considered).

Whether you’re a fan of battle royale games, looking for a new MMO or just want to spree-kill in a Minecraft-esque world, Grand Battle Royale should have you covered. You can download it from the App Store and Google Play for free.
