[Wondering if its worth getting into another Pac-Man game? Check out our PAC-MAN CE DX review.]

So, you’ve just bought PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX and you’re not quite sure where to begin. It’s all looking pretty different from the PAC-MAN of old, right? That’s because PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX happens to be one of the best versions out there, and we’re here to guide you through the paces early on so that your high scores can only get better.

The Basics

  • Starting out, you’ve got the choice of just the one maze. It’s the perfect introduction to things. You’ve got the choice of three difficulty levels. Stick it on Beginner to start out.
  • As well as that, you can tweak the visuals and character visuals. I tend to keep it on the default options, but it’s worth changing it up sometimes. In particular, the old school PAC-MAN vibe is neat.
  • Controls are pretty intuitive. You swipe up, down, left, or right to move around. The only confusing thing (if you don’t check out the tutorial) is when it comes to activating bombs. This requires you to perform a pinching outward gesture, which can be a little awkward if you’re in a hurry. The key is to avoid getting in those situations. More on that later.
  • Concentrate! Many mobile games lend themselves to commuter play, allowing you to not fully pay attention at times. PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX isn’t one of those games. If you look away, you’re probably going to screw up. Don’t let that happen.
  • Practice. Early on, you’re going to screw up anyhow. PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX doesn’t exactly punish you, but you’ll learn the more efficient paths to guide you towards more points and that general smug feeling that comes from doing a good job. Each maze has different routes to consider. The only way is to practice, practice, practice.

Duck and Weave Tactics

  • Two types of ghosts are after you. There are ones released from the center of the board, and there are ones that remain stationary until you run past them. The latter are actually pretty useful when you’re trying to rack up the big points.
  • Follow the pellet routes. It’ll cause you to run by more ghosts but it’s the most efficient path points wise.
  • The most ghosts that can follow you at any one time is 30. Get those 30 chasing you, grab a power pellet, and hunt them down. The points you’ll gain will be worth it.
  • You can reset the opposite side of the board by eating fruit. Fruit appears once you’ve eaten all the pellets so plan accordingly. Mixing things up is useful.

Bomb Techniques

  • When you get close to a ghost, the game slows down. This gives you time to change direction or use a bomb. You want to be trying to change direction.
  • Conserve bombs. A lot of the time, you can duck and weave rather than use one and that’s easier and way more efficient.
  • However, if you’ve got no choice, use a bomb rather than be slowed down by a ghost. Time is points and everything in this game is about point scoring!
