If you've ever wanted to create your own item, weapon, trap, or even monster for Chainsaw Warrior: Lords of the Night, this is your chance. Auroch Digital is currently holding a contest so that fans can fight to the death (not really) to see which design will make the cut (no pun intended).

Goats are awesome - we're rather big fans of them here at 148Apps and to celebrate their great contribution to gaming, we're giving away two £50 Steam vouchers.
Mobile gaming has allowed us to live the mass-destruction lifestyle of a goat in Goat Simulator, fight off bottomless goat hunger and a zombie apocalypse in GoatZ, and jump around eating food and creating our own fiendish levels in the Goatup franchise.
You could say it's been pretty good to us goat lovers.
However, we wouldn't go so far as to call ourselves goat experts - as our score of 4 / 12 in this rather humorous online quiz would attest to.
Do you think you can tell your goat from your goatee? If so, take on the challenge yourself - after all, you can't do any worse than we did.
Here at Steel Media, we're giving away two £50 Steam vouchers to celebrate goats in gaming and all you have to do to enter is head on over to Twitter, retweet the following tweet, and follow us.
— PocketGamer (@PocketGamer) July 9, 2015
Easy as that goat quiz, right?
- The competition closes on Tuesday July 14th, 2015 at 9am BST, and no entries will be accepted after this date.
- The winner will be notified by Twitter shortly after the closing date of the competition - make sure you are following ou sister site, Pocket Gamer so your account can receive direct messages.
- The competition is open to UK entrants only.
- 148Apps parent company Steel Media's decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the winners of the competition.
[Update: Rather than a random draw, you'll simply receive the USB stick with both games just for filling out the form.]
Live in the US? Like free games and USB gadgets? Well, you're in luck!
Our friends at Chukong Technologies are giving 148Apps readers the opportunity to grab two fine games loaded onto a neat little 16GB micro USB drive that's so tiny you won't even notice it poking out of your computer or smartphone.
The two games in question are bold, beautiful brawler Chaos Fighters and space puzzler extraordinaire Cosmic Crash.
To get yours, you must have a US mailing address and be at least 18 years old.
Does that sound like you? Great! Now just answer this quick and easy survey, and you'll find quite a treat in your mailbox well before the holiday season.
• This giveaway is only open for a limited number of entries - if the form isn't loading we are already at full capacity.
• Drives will be mailed out within 1-2 weeks of their respective form submission.
• The offer is only open to people with US mailing addresses.
• 148Apps parent company Steel Media's decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding those who don't receive a USB stick.
Wow, what a month it’s been for racing fans. Specifically Real Racing fans! You might recall how we kicked things off with our three-part series documenting the history of the Real Racing series, Firemint’s (now Firemonkeys’) approach to designing the first two games, and a peek at Real Racing 3’s Time Shifted Multiplayer that everyone’s been talking about. If you don’t recall you should give them a read. You know, for science or something. Not because I wrote them and am proud of my work or anything.
Of course that was just the beginning. There was also our look at Real Racing 3’s first true hands-on demo. And of course that whole free-to-play business that turned into something of a debacle. Let’s not forget the seething jealousy that was undoubtedly felt when we all found out both New Zealand and Australia were getting the game a couple weeks earlier than the rest of the world!
Before we knew it, Real Racing 3 was only a week away. Our lord and master, Jeff Scott, really dug into the mathematics at play and analyzed the in-game economic structure, for better or for worse. Blake Grundman followed with a look at the top 5 drool-inducing rides players can get their hands on (thus far), and soon after that Carter Dotson stepped up with a look at the 5 most alluring real-world racetracks on offer. Finally, the week was capped off with Carter’s in-depth look at Time Shifted Multiplayer while Jeff hopped back in the driver’s seat (sorry, I’m only human) one last time to bestow his Real Racing wisdom with an impressive number of tips and tricks. We also reviewed it, of course.
Get Racing - we've got prizes!
Since it’s been something of a non-stop Real Racing 3 party here at 148Apps we wanted to draw things to a close with a bit of style. Which is why we’re going to capitalize on all the spirit of Time Shifted competition and challenge you, our readers, to a race. Specifically the Pure Stock Challenge, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Nissan Silvia (S15) Showcase Cup race pictured above. I think I’ve typed that out correctly. Why this event? Because it requires one of the first cars new players will have access to and doesn’t allow for any other; providing as even and easily accessible a playing field as we could find.
All you have to do is drive your heart out. Snap a screen shot (hit the Power and Home buttons on your iOS device at the same time) of your best time and post it in the comments below along with your Game Center username. We’ll pick random winners from all of the entries and post the results here on Monday (3/4) afternoon.
The prizes? We'll give away three $10 iTunes gift cards to spend how you see fit. Although in the spirit of the contest we’d suggest something like, oh, maybe the Race Car Booster Pack that includes 65 gold and a 2010 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR-X?
Update: We'll contact our three winners via email. Thanks for playing and look for more Real Racing 3 contests coming up soon.
Mobicle, developers of new social network game Bloody Western, want to give you a chance to win one of thirty $10 iTunes gift cards. Keep reading for more details.

The game also allows for a variety of in-app purchases, such as gear, weaponry and clothing enhancements. So, with Mobicle and 148Apps offering iTunes gift cards to players, now is the time to get in on the game and purchase some of these enhancements for free.

There's a plentiful supply of Scrabble type games on the App Store with the most popular varieties being Scrabble itself and Words With Friends. Today marks the launch of a new word game much like the aforementioned twosome, keen to make its mark on the multiplayer word construction world.
Words Play is that game. Providing an attractive and playful exterior with smiley, cartoon faces guiding the player and a colorful board, Words Play certainly has the potential to be a big hit.
The word game concept we all know and love is there. Players take turns to create words from 7 tiles then place them on the board. The board has a variety of special places that provide double or triple point scores for respective letters or even the whole word. Bonus points are given for creating a word with all the available letters on the rack. Rather usefully, there's the addition of an in-app dictionary so that players who don't recognize a word, can just tap on the selection and learn a bit about the term.
Words Play offers a selection of modes. There's the head to head mode for players who want to play against a friend who's sitting near them. Then there's the online multiplayer functionality via the title's Game Center support. The player can choose to be automatically matched with a random opponent or they can hook up with a friend on their Game Center friends list. For the anti social gamer, there's also the prospect of competing against the adaptive AI player for the additional price of a $0.99 in-app purchase.
Words Play is a neat little package that's no doubt sounding pretty appealing right now to words games fans. So readers will be excited to hear that we have 20 promo codes to give away! All you have to do is check in on our Twitter account where we'll be giving away codes shortly. Obviously, you're already following us but if not, we're @148apps.
Enjoy the fun!

Very few things pique my curiosity as quickly as the combo of slugs, sci-fi and outer space. Leave it to app developer Bit Barons to create a new brainteasing puzzle game with a theme as unique as Astroslugs. Set in a time before time, Astroslugs challenges players to help the slugs gather Slug Energy through 35 levels. Controls are designed specifically with the iPad in mind, requiring players to slide their fingers to create paths for the slugs to travel. In a clever change of pace, each level of Astroslugs has multiple paths to a solution, so a deft mind can find numerous ways to achieve victory.
There's a good introduction to the game via the Lite Version on the App Store, but for those hungering for more slugs, 148Apps and developer BitBarons have teamed up to offer five promo codes for the full version of Astroslugs. Just leave a comment below to enter. We'll pull five names a little later in the week. Good luck, and happy slug hunting!
Spotify has landed in the US with a great deal of press coverage and speculation, but what is it, exactly?
Spotify is a streaming music service - more akin to Rdio or MOG than the randomly-generated playlists of Pandora - that has one killer feature its competitors don't. It's free. Yep, once an account is established (which is tricky at the moment - more on that in a bit), streaming is enabled for Macs and PCs through the iTunes-like Spotify desktop client. The catches are relatively minor. The free service is ad-supported, so expect to hear song snippets when you least expect them, or see an ad for Coke dominate your Spotify screen for a few seconds. Taken as a whole, however, it's a lot of content for the surprising cost of nothing.
For those wanting more, Spotify offers an Unlimited Plan for $4.95 which features unlimited streaming to PC/Mac with no ads or a Premiere Plan for $9.95 a month to stream all content to the iPhone and select other devices. If you're hurting for an invite to join the fun, you can jump to the head of the line by purchasing an Unlimited or Premiere plan...or...
You can win one of two invites to Spotify USA by helping us reach 2,000 fans on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/148apps. Once we hit that magic number, all of our recent fans' names go into a hat for a random drawing. Two lucky winners will receive invites to the music party of the year.
Gameloft have released a new app today, not a game, but an app. Their Warplanes: A History of Aerial Combat is an interactive look at warplanes of the world. We're teaming with them to celebrate that game with a contest!
Sure, the iPad is a great productivity tool, and a great game device, but when you can present real educational content on a device this easily, the device just pops. Jay Franco, producer of Warplanes comments:
This app was designed especially for the iPad screen and interface. We use a larger display for our rotating 3D models. We also designed various interfaces depending on what content the user is looking at (i.e., photos, technical drawings, etc.). We are convinced that Warplanes: A History of Aerial Combat is the kind of app for which the iPad was created.
Warplanes takes a look at 43 influential planes across the world and through history, looking at the important role each has played. For each plane you can look at multiple photos, read a description, and perhaps the most engaging aspect, interact with an accurate 3D representation of the plane. Also included is detailed information about the plane and a stats feature that lets you compare, side by side, the features of two different planes. It must have been difficult to gather all of this information, all of it likely classified at one point in time. Again, Jay Franco comments:
This project differed from our first book effort, War in the Pacific, which was a straight digital adaptation of an existing print book with additional features added on. With Warplanes, we had to research everything that went into it from various sources and fit them all together. In the end, I think it turned out well and is both a fun and instructive book app experience.
Overall it's a very impressive application, filled with information and fantastic to interact with. And it's on a subject that has always interested me.
Contest: Because we liked this app so much when we first saw it, we've teamed up with Gameloft for a contest to celebrate this release. This contest is a pretty simple one. To enter, you guess the plane on the front cover of this application (see the top image above). To enter, fill out the entry form hosted over at their Facebook page.
One lucky winner drawn from all of the right answers will receive a Altec Lansing iPad Dock with a retail value of $120.
Have any thoughts? Feel free to discuss theories below. I think I know which plane it is. But....
