Iron Snout is the kind of game you dip into when you’re in desperate need for some stress relief. It’s fairly mindless for the most part, but that doesn’t stop it from being reasonably well executed. It could do with a few more reasons to keep you coming back for more, though.
Piglet is an angry pig with the skills of a ninja and a kung-fu expert all rolled into one. He’s trying to defend himself against waves upon waves of wolves. It’s an endless and somewhat futile battle, but the point here is to wrack up your high score.
Controls are a matter of tapping to punch and sliding up or down to jump or duck. You can combine these, though - creating jump attacks, sliding moves, and a whole mishmash of other techniques. Speed is important here but so is timing, as the wolves gradually infringe upon your territory.
Ultimately, you’re going to lose as Piglet’s health - represented by rashers of bacon - is gradually depleted when you miss dodging a blow here and there. The point is to simply have fun, though. Iron Snout doesn’t evolve past its simplest idea, which is both a success and a flaw. It works well for short bursts but after a time you’ll wish there was a bit more to it. A small upgrade system would have gone a long way towards making you come back for more.
Still, it’s quite cute and it’s not like it costs anything. Ads support the game but they’re not too intrusive and a small price to pay for a quick stress reliever. Just don’t expect too much depth here. You’re going to forget about Iron Snout sooner or later, no matter how cute it might be.
