Demonstrating how the Apple Watch can be a good device for keeping up to date with things, Instapaper is a fairly handy way of keeping on top of all of those articles that you mean to read but never have the time for.
While the iPhone/iPad app allows you to read such articles while offline, the Apple Watch version only lets you listen in. Using a text to speech engine, you’ll hear a robotic voice reading out whichever article you choose, and it kind of works. It’s easy enough to stop and start, plus you can adjust the speed if it feels a little slow. However, that robotic twang does annoy after a time, especially with longer articles.
For those of us who prefer to read rather than listen, there’s no way of simply reading an article on your wrist. Sure, you wouldn’t be able to see much but in certain cases, it’d be useful to have the option.
You can still ‘like’ articles, archive them, or move them elsewhere, however, in which case I can see Instapaper for the Apple Watch being a more convenient way to tidy up your backlog of articles before taking to the main app to actually read up. It’s not ideal, but at least the option is there.
