You already know how to hop around like Mario, but do you know how to defeat him? Those are your marching orders in Kill the Plumber, and it's not always as easy as it looks. Here are some tips to get you started.

This is not a seasoned platform player

The AI in Kill the Plumber is remarkably predictable if you study its behavior closely. March up to the protagonist as a goomba-like creature and he'll instinctively jump over you. If he's nearing a Thwomp that's raised and waiting, he'll pause before going under it.

Obviously, the plumber will do everything in his power to stay alive, but he eventually gets so predictable that you can exploit him.

If you're having trouble beating a time record for a stage, maybe try getting the plumber to make an inopportune jump over you.

The key to invincibility

At a certain point in Kill the Plumber, the plumber will start the stage with invincibility. Unlike in Mario games, this isn't the kind of invincibility that ends after a certain period of time, and the game doesn't do a particularly good job of explaining that.

Here's how it actually works: In every stage with invincibility, there's always going to be some green coins. Those green coins - once completely gathered - will deactivate the invincibility.

In a sense, this makes invincibility stages more like a locked door puzzle. You have to guide the plumber to the green coins (without getting hit!) before you make your strike.

Use the background to your advantage

It's likely you'll die repeatedly on any given stage in Kill the Plumber, and sometimes that's because of poor spacing.

Luckily for you, every stage also has a static background. If you find yourself struggling to dodge fireballs or positioning yourself just under the plumber, make a note of the background to make adjustments for next time.

Hold down buttons between rounds

In a lot of cases in Kill the Plumber, there's a very tight time window you, the player, need to hit. If you want to give yourself a slight advantage on execution, try holding the button you initially want to press before the end of the previous round to start the next one immediately in motion.
