In the exhibition ‘Before the Incas, Gods and Kings in Ancient Peru’, you will encounter Cupisnique, Mochica, Chimú, Lambayeque: the many cultures at the origin of the powerful Incan empire. Pottery, gold and silver artefacts, fabrics: the museum presents almost 300 artworks, mostly discovered during the excavations of the past 30 years. These exceptional treasures are described across the 19 commentaries. You will learn about the different expressions of Heavenly and earthly powers, and you will gain a clearer understanding of the relations between social classes and the role of religion in contemporary society.
