Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy has a lot to offer fans of flight combat games, but the controls have a tendency to get in the way.

I'm no stranger to virtual aerial dogfighting, but it's the sort of thing I really have to be in the mood for. Much like football I may suddenly find myself anxious to dive into a game for no good reason, even after several months of playing nothing of the sort. That said, when the mood does strike it helps to be able to play something that provides a quality experience. And with Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy around I'll never be left wanting when the inclination hits again.

As expected, Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy involves flying jets around a number of environments while shooting at other jets. Players can expect to get a reasonable amount of time out of the campaign's ten missions, but this is really more of an extended training session to prepare them for the monumental amount of other game types on hand. Dogfighting, base defense and four other modes await, each with a varying number of individual missions. Some also allow for a bit of customization by way of adjusting timers or enemy strength. Then there's the multiplayer suite. If someone enjoys flying virtual planes and has access to wi-fi, they may never have another moment of free time again.

Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy certainly looks good, but it's the little details that really make it gorgeous. Things like smoke trails, camera shake and on-screen damage when getting shot up, visible shockwaves from going certain speeds, etc. Of course the game itself is also quite fun, and full of various game types to enjoy (as I've already covered). There's also a fairly large number of new planes to unlock, each with their own individual stats. The multiplayer is where most people will probably spend the bulk of their time, however. Each match offers something new, even of it's the same mode, and there's always satisfaction to be had from going toe-to-toe with a real person instead of an AI jet.

The controls almost killed it for me in the beginning, but I managed to find a setup that suits me. The casual control stick might not allow for advanced maneuvers, but it sure beats inadvertently crashing into the ground over and over. Not to say that the accelerometer controls are bad, but they're certainly not for me. I'm also not a fan of having to take my thumb off of the steering controls in order to launch flairs, but that's mostly because of my preferred control setup.

Anyone with a love of dogfighting should definitely check out Sky Gamblers: Air Superiority. With so many options for both single and multiplayer game types, it's bound to keep them entertained for a very long time.
