The one Pokemon GO trick you need to know to level up faster

There's no real rush to get ahead in Pokemon GO. Even if it starts to fade a little after its ludicrously fantastic launch, there are millions of people who will be just getting into the game over the weeks to come. Maybe you're one of them -- after all, the game just launched in Canada, and Japan is still waiting for it.

But while others may proceed at a leisurely pace to catch 'em all, let's assume that's not for you. If the thought of having other teams control the Gym near your house makes your blood boil, or you simply have dreams of becoming the very best (like no one ever was), you're going to need to level up faster.

We can't offer you any cheat codes to give you instant advancement, but we can help you get ahead a little quicker than you've been progressing so far. Best of all, this trick doesn't require any rare Pokemon, but rather takes advantage of aspects of the game that are relatively simple to track down.

As the New Kids on the Block once said, let's do this by step by step ...

1. Pick a common Pokemon

You'll need to be able to catch the same type of Pokemon over and over again to make this trick work properly. For me, it's Pidgey, but your mileage may vary. Any pocket monster that you see constantly will do.

2. Keep a few and transfer the rest

Hopefully by now you've discovered that you can get an extra piece of candy by transferring a Pokemon back to the professor. If not, you simply scroll all the way down to the bottom of the Pokemon's profile and hit the big green 'transfer' button.

The idea here is that we're going to be doing mass evolving, so for our Pidgey example, you're going to want to keep one Pidgey for every 12 pieces of Pidgey candy you have.

3. Get your hands on some Lucky Eggs

The Lucky Egg is a fantastic and perhaps underrated Pokemon GO item, considering that the Lure Module hogs all the spotlight for what it brings to the table for businesses.

But the Lucky Egg is fantastic because it doubles the amount of XP you get for doing anything: catching Pokemon, visiting PokeStops, and most importantly for our purposes, evolving Pokemon.

You get a free Lucky Egg upon reaching trainer level 9, and they can be found at PokeStops on occasion as well. They're also available for purchase with Poke Coins.

4. Activate the Lucky Egg and start evolving

While there are multiple ways to take advantage of the Lucky Egg's bonus, the others are too unreliable or give too small a benefit to suit our purposes. Even with double XP, visiting a PokeStop is only 100 XP, and catching a Pokemon you don't already have could take all day.

Thus, the best way to shoot up fast in XP is to use the Lucky Egg and start evolving, as you'll get 1000 XP for each Pokemon. Then you can even transfer your Pidgeotto (in my example) back to the professor for more Pidgey candy to be ready to do this all over again.

The key is to have everything you need ready ahead of time, as you don't want to be wasting your 30 minutes going out chasing down more supplies. But definitely put this trick to faster leveling to the test. We think you'll be happy with the results.
