Meteorfall guide - Tips for the Card Crawling Initiate

Posted by Campbell Bird on January 26th, 2018

Meteorfall: Journey is a card-based rogulike that we love the super tight design of. It can be tough as nails, but there’s something about it that makes it compelling nonetheless. Here are a few tips that might keep you alive a little longer on any given run of Meteorfall:

Optimize your deck

In Meteorfall, your hero is only as strong has the cards in their deck, but that doesn’t mean you should just pick up any old cards and add them to the mix. The key to doing well in the game is making sure your hero draws all the cards you want and none of the ones you don’t. That means you should be choosy about what you put into your deck, and even remove cards if they don’t seem like they’re pulling their weight.

Cash rules everything around me

If you have the right amount of money, you can turn almost any run of Meteorfall around. You never know when a Store or a Blacksmith is around the corner, so be sure to bank your coins and spend them strategically on upgrading or buying new cards that can give you an edge moving forward. Be careful though. Your score at the end of a run is governed by how much money you collect, so be sure not to spend too much if you want to post a high score.

Look out for the boss

In general, it’s wise to fight enemies to level your character and gain experience, but if you aren’t too careful, you can find yourself face to face with a boss with only a handful of hit points left. This is an easy thing to avoid thanks to a little counter in the lower right of the screen, but it can be just as easy to forget and charge ahead, which could prematurely end your run.

Play to your strengths

You can choose to play Meteorfall with one of four different characters, and all of them excel at different styles of play. Bruno is a warrior that is good at dealing damage through basic attacks, Greybeard is a powerful wizard that can take advantage of spell synergies in a few different ways, Mischief is a plucky rogue that can deal a lot of burst damage and gain a lot of potions, and Rose is a healer that can drain her life to hurt enemies before healing back up with relative ease. Each character takes a little bit of practice to get a handle on them, but taking advantage of each hero’s strengths is the ultimate key to success in Meteorfall.

This dungeon-crawler draws inspiration from Reigns. It’s an odd choice, but it really works.
