After rumors started swirling yesterday, it turns out there is an official Pokémon GO update on its way. We’ll find out what’s in store for us and our growing Pokémon collections tomorrow during the Starbucks event, but Niantic will be revealing more extensive plans for expanding the Pokédex next week.

Niantic sent a very, very brief press release around today, assuring us that their plans to unleash a new batch of Pokémon on the world would be revealed on December 12, a week from today.

It’s likely we’ll be seeing the arrival of second generation Pokémon in the coming weeks. So what about that Pokémon GO and Starbucks collab? It’s pure speculation for the next few hours, but it’s worth remembering that there are still quite a few of the original 151 Pocket Monsters that have yet to make their appearance. Ditto was introduced a few weeks ago, so could we be seeing another release in that vein to tide us over until a bigger update? It would certainly be enough reason to get people to scout out their local Starbucks.

It’s been a pretty Pokémon GO-heavy news week overall, as Sprint had some of their own news to share. The mobile network is partnering with Niantic to become its first US corporate partner, transforming Sprint stores across the country into PokéStops and gyms. That includes Boost Mobile shops and Radioshack stores.

All in all, it’s shaping up to be a pretty busy month for Pokémon GO, so prepare to dust off your app and get ready.
