Clash Royale Unveils Crown Championship

Supercell announced the first Clash Royale Crown Championship today, heralding the first competition for the hugely popular collectible card game. The festivities begin on May 11 and will span the entire year, bringing together the best players worldwide.

The first spring tournament players from North America, Europe, China, Japan, Korea, and Latin America, but the fall season will welcome players from the rest of the world after that. $1 million USD in prizes is up for grabs, and competition will be fierce. Contenders sixteen years or older are free to register now for the first phase of the competition running from May 11 - 16. The first phase, or Open Phase, will see plenty of thousand-player tournaments that will carefully pick out the best of the of the bunch to progress further.

Finalists from the Open Phase will be placed into the second phase, Bracket Play, which will host eight 1024 player tournaments. Each finalist from these tournaments will move onto Phase 3, where the top eight will duke it out between June 10 and June 25. The top six players then head to the Spring Finals from June 30 to July 2 to determine this year's Spring Champion.

It was only a matter of time before Clash Royale opted to head into the competitive sphere. It will certainly be interesting to see how this tournament plays out, as esports have yet to take off as they have on other video game platforms.
