The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War is NetEase’s brand new strategy game based on JRR Tolkien’s epic fantasy trilogy. Choose your favourite characters as Commanders, assemble your army, and march to fight until you claim the One Ring for your own. It’s an all-out war between the Factions of Middle-earth, and only one can secure the ultimate power.

To give you the best start possible to securing the One Ring, we’ve put together the following tips and tricks so you’ll know exactly what to focus on from the very beginning.

Capturing territories to build up power

You’ll quickly find that the more land you amass, the more power you have in The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War, and as you capture it, your ring becomes stronger. The reason you want to expand out is to not only bless your troops with stronger traits but to gain essential resources as well. Knowing how this is displayed on the map will make that process easier.

When you see a coloured border around a tile on the map, it could mean a couple of different things. Green means that you already own this tile, purple represents tiles owned by your Faction, and red will show you where your enemies’ territories are. Blank or colourless tiles show land you can claim by moving your army there. These are essential to growing your strength, and you’ll want to focus on picking up any nearby tiles, regardless of how little it adds to your ring power, as soon as you begin.

Once your army begins to expand out, you’ll still retain ownership of that land and can benefit from the resources there, so don’t be afraid to move them. Each tile has a specific amount of ring power that you can gain from it, so be sure you check before spending the lengthy process of marching troops there.

Gathering Essential Resources

In The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War, you must claim resources to keep your armies strong and to gain the materials you need to reinforce your settlement. Most resource tiles offer building materials and upgrade materials. There are also tiles that give you additional types of troops and ones that provide means to move faster through the environment, like cave tiles.

If you manage to acquire a control point, not only do you gain control of that resource, but also the entire region around it. These points may take a lot of fighting to obtain but will provide you with a wide expanse of power for your effort.

Taking it all in - The beauty of Rise to War

Exploring such a vast, accurate map of Middle-earth may seem a bit overwhelming, but thankfully there’s plenty of things to admire on your path to victory. The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War has meticulously detailed battle maps with terrain to match the stories and adventures, and each sprawling city or fortress is rendered in 3D. Whether you’re a fan of the books or a diehard for the movie, there’s plenty to gain from diving into the lore, and Rise to War offers a perfect solution to that.

Inside the Red Book of Westmarch, you’ll find tales of epic battles which were conducted by some of Middle-earth’s fiercest Commanders. You too can relive their victories by replaying through these campaigns and can also gain some extra resources by winning the battle. If you lose, you’ll have to return to the book the next day to try again, but you can keep playing through them as long as you keep winning.

Team up to conquer quicker

Since The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War is a social strategy game, enlisting the help of others will benefit both parties and is one of the fastest ways to rise to power. Establishing a Fellowship or Warband with like-minded players will help you add to your resources, and you can attack another Faction’s tiles without any penalties.

Each season holds a winner for who was able to keep control of Dol Guldur, so picking a Faction wisely is an integral part of the meta-game. Getting started, however, you want to pick one that best resonates with you, as they are fairly balanced, no matter which one you pick.

As you continue to play, you’ll gain more Commanders, expand your army, and hopefully, one day see your Faction victorious in securing the One Ring. If you are unable to win the campaign, when the season restarts, you’ll be wiser and more experienced and can push even further than before. Work out quickly what tactics work best for you and may luck be on your side.
