Thursday has made its way round again, which means it's time for you, our stylish and attractive readers, to decide which of the five games we've selected below should be awarded this week's game of the week prize.

This week we've got sports, donuts, ravenous mythical creatures, and a game where you actually have to go outside into the real world. And we reckon each and every one of them is worthy of nabbing this week's award.

But it doesn't matter what we think, for once, because this time it's all down to you. Voting couldn't be simpler - all you need to do is leave a comment at the bottom of the article. Or, you can tweet us using the hashtag #148GOW. Or if you're a friend of Zuckerberg, post a comment on our Facebook page.

And don't forget to check back next week, when we'll be revealing which of these games you decided was best. Right then, on with the choices.

Powerless is the winner of this week's 148Apps game of the week award

Posted by Harry Slater on August 28th, 2018

Well, we've run the numbers, and we can now reveal that this week's game of the week, as voted for by you, the readers of 148Apps, is Powerless by Narratio. It actually was a close run thing this week, but we sent the figures to Strasbourg and the independent panel of experts there verified our choice. Seriously, that happened.

Powerless is a narrative experience focusing on a world where the power has been shut down. It's got a lot of really interesting stuff going for it, and we reckon it's a deserving winner of the shiny and hypothetical award we hand out every week.

Has it really been a week since the last time we met to discuss the finest games of the last seven days? I guess it must have been, because it's Thursday again, and we're typing up a list of five games for you to pick our game of the week from. Doesn't time fly when time is flying, eh?

We're going to be honest, it's not a vintage week for iOS gaming. But that doesn't mean there aren't some great experiences waiting for you out there, it just means that we had to dig a little deeper in order to find them for you. And now it's your turn to return the favour by placing your vote.

How do you do that? Well you can leave a comment on this article stating which game you'd like to win. Bendy in Nightmare Run is the deserved winner of our game of the week award

Posted by Harry Slater on August 21st, 2018

Normally we play these announcements out a little but, acting like the vote was close, or that there was some tension among the official panel of judges in Strasbourg about the final decision. Not this week though, because this week we have what one might call a runaway winner.

And that winner is Bendy in Nightmare Run, a game that's all about running away from terrifying cartoon creations that are trying to eat you. And throwing anvils at them. Any game where you can throw an anvil at someone is good in our book.

But there's much more to the game than just chucking heavy metal objects at taxis that have come to life. A lot more, actually.

This week's game of the week is the stealth-tastic Sneak Ops

Posted by Harry Slater on August 14th, 2018

Well it was a tight one this week, but after a count, a recount, and a harried phone call with the game of the week administration in Strasbourg, we can now reveal that the winner of this week's game of the week award is midcore stealth banger, Sneak Ops.

The game sees you making your way through a maze-like structure, hiding from guards, laser trip-wires, and the roving eyes of sentry cameras. It's the stealth game with all of its frippery peeled back, and quite frankly it's pretty darn wonderful.

But why do we think it deserves to win our game of the week award? Not that it's up to us, but there's a damn good reason it's clearly resonated with so many of you.

Numbers and monsters RPG Math and Sorcery has won our game of the week award

Posted by Harry Slater on August 8th, 2018

We've counted up all the votes, sent them off to the court of arbitration in Strasbourg and had them vetted by an independent panel of retired judges and this guy we know who said he was real honest. I tell you all of this so when I announce the winner of the game of the week award, you know that the result is infallible.

It's Math and Sorcery, by the way. A game all about, wait for it, Math and Sorcery. But don't let that get you down, because there's so much to enjoy in both the mathematical and dark-arts departments here that it'd be churlish to complain.

The winner of this week's game of the week award is The Horus Heresy: Legions

Posted by Harry Slater on July 31st, 2018

After another close-fought battle, and plenty of dissent among the ranks, we can now reveal the winner of this week's game of the week award. And if you've been paying attention to all of this psuedo-military speak, you've probably worked out that it's The Horus Heresy: Legions.

It's a card game of surprising depth and accessibility, that sees you building a deck of Space Marines, daemons, Imperial Guard troopers, and giant tanks to take out all of your foes. Think Hearthstone but set in the grim-dark-darkly-grim-grim future of Games Workshop's Warhammer 40K universe.

How The Room: Old Sins understands where fear truly comes from

Posted by Harry Slater on July 25th, 2018

How do you take a series in a new direction when it’s already so well established as The Room? That must have been the question facing Fireproof Games when it sat down to work on The Room: Old Sins. The fourth game in a series is always going to be a tough one to make, and even more so when it’s the newest entry in one of the best-loved franchises in mobile gaming.

Obdurately stick to what came before and you leave yourself open to accusations of resting on your laurels, or try something new and risk losing what made the previous games so great in the first place. But in the end The Room: Old Sins took both paths, and Fireproof created another mobile masterpiece.

The winner of this week's game of the week award is Rowdy Wrestling

Posted by Harry Slater on July 24th, 2018

We've run the numbers. We've run the numbers again, and we've run the numbers one final time, and we can now reveal which of these five games has won our highly coveted game of the week award. It's Rowdy Wrestling. Sorry, we don't do fanfare around these parts.

The game is a brilliant arcade blast of crunching nonsense that sees you duking it out against burly men in order to be crowned the champion. And sure, that might sound like it's been done before, but trust us when we say that there's a lot more going on here than that.

Too fast, too furious, or just right? We go hands-on with Asphalt 9: Legends for mobile

Posted by Harry Slater on July 23rd, 2018

Asphalt 9: Legends iOS preview screenshot - Getting some air

Asphalt 9: Legends is stupid. But I don't want you to think that's a bad thing, because it's really, really not. This is the polar opposite of a hardcore racing sim, and it wears its arcade heart on its ridiculously pimped-up sleeve. Oh, and it looks amazing as well.

The game is currently out in soft launch in the Philippines, so we thought we should grab some time with it before its worldwide release to give you some idea of what to expect when the game lands in the coming month. And most of what we've seen has left us far from disappointed.

Alto's Odyssey shows how mobile sequels can be much more than the sum of their parts

Posted by Harry Slater on July 20th, 2018

The very best games mix together an effortless class and a compulsion loop that keeps you playing until your eyes are sore, your fingers are chafed, and you can't remember the last time you saw any sun other than a digital one. And that's why Alto's Odyssey ranks among the very finest experiences you can get on the App Store.

More than that though, the game is a brilliant example of how to do a sequel. It doesn't slavishly adhere to the formula of its predecessor, but it doesn't stray too far from what made Alto's Adventure great either. It's a balancing act of the very best kind. And it's also a whole heap of fun.
