Thursday is the day when most of the new releases come out on the App Store. It's also the day when we pick what we think are the best five games that have come out over the last seven days. Then we pose you, our readers, a simple question - which is best?

There's one game on the list that probably stands above all the others in terms of how excited people are to play it, but if we've learned anything from these articles, it's that excitement isn't always a good marker of what game is going to walk away from the vote victorious.

You're probably wondering how you vote now. Well, it couldn't be easier. You can leave a comment at the bottom of the article with your choice. Or contact us on Twitter with the hashtage #148GOW with your pick. If that's not enough, you can even leave us a comment on our Facebook page to let us know.

If you're wondering what won last week's game of the week award, you can find that out by clicking right here. Right then, on with the shortlist.

Grimvalor is last week's 148Apps iPhone and iPad game of the week

Posted by Harry Slater on October 18th, 2018

What a week it has been here at 148Apps towers. We've been swamped, which means we're a bit late letting you know what last week's game of the week was. Don't worry though, we're here now, and we can reveal that Grimvalor takes away the prize.

It was a pretty tight run thing this week, but we're pretty confident that the correct game has won. Grimvalor might look a lot like a Dark Souls clone at first glance, but dig a bit deeper and you'll discover something really rather special lurking in the grim fantasy aesthetic. And we love special things here at 148Apps.

My scariest mobile game - Final Fantasy 7

Posted by Harry Slater on October 17th, 2018

This is going to be a bit of a weird one, but bear with me. The game that has scared me the most isn't a horror experience (don't get me wrong, I won't go outside if it's foggy thanks to Silent Hill 2), it's actually Final Fantasy 7. Sounds ridiculous, right? But there's a good reason that no other games have managed to put me quite so on edge as Square's classic JRPG.

There are some horror aspects in the game - you find Vincent Valentine in a coffin in the basement of a mansion. And he's a vampire. But those moments are more box-ticking tropes than anything else. No one's terrified of Vincent Valentine, unless they harbour dark fears about androgynous cybergoths.

It's not the bits in Final Fantasy 7 that were meant to scary that put the fear of Genova into me, it's the moments where it shows just how vulnerable your party is. It's when it shows you just how exposed to the world you really are.

True Surf is the winner of last week's 148Apps iPhone and iPad game of the week award

Posted by Harry Slater on October 9th, 2018

We've run all of the numbers through our massive, high-tech, super powerful AI-controlled computer, sent them off to the laboratories in Switzerland for final approval, and consulted our lizard overlords to ensure that we're not treading on anyone's toes, but we can now reveal that the winner of this week's game of the week award is none other than True Surf.

It was the runaway winner of the prize, thanks largely to a big vote from the surfing community. But how good is it, does it manage to capture that feeling of slicing through the waves, and do we think it's a worthy winner of our game of the week award? The answer to that last one is yes, we definitely do. You're going to have to read on to get the answers to the others though.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realm War is the winner of last week's game of the week award

Posted by Harry Slater on September 26th, 2018

It feels like almost all of our game of the week award votes are close run things. Probably because there are so many awesome games coming out on the App Store at the moment. Last week was no different, but we can now reveal that the winner of the award is Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realm War.

It's a tight MOBA set in Games Workshop's fantasy world, and it's all about using your units at the right time to take down your opponent. It's got a few twists that make it stand out from the rest of the genre though, and we reckon they make it a game that's a worthy winner of last week's hypothetical trophy.
