We’re proud to be able to trace our origins back 123 years, which many other independent estate agents simply cannot claim. As independent as ever, we thrive on our dynamic approach and our ability to “think different,” taking traditional estate agency to a new level of service, trust and commitment.
Our colourful property history has been painted by various compelling leaders, one of whom being entrepreneurial John Fletcher who has been CEO of the company since 2010. Initially acquiring a family run Estate Agency with a single branch, John’s unshakeable drive and leadership has made Miller Metcalfe what we are today, transforming the well-known brand into a broadly based property consultancy with multiple branches across the North West and a team of surveyors across England and Wales.
John’s passion for excellent customer service and a winning mentality attracted our ambitious team who share the same vision, and together we are helping to shape the future of Miller Metcalfe.

The business was formed in 1891 as ‘Thomas Crompton and Son’, with offices in Horwich and Bolton. By 1952 we were known as ‘Aubrey, Lee and Miller.’ The now recognisable ‘Miller Metcalfe,’ was born when Stanley Miller and Colin Metcalfe joined us in the early 1970s.
In 1982, Andrew and Lesley Thompson bought the business and the name changed once again to ‘Miller Metcalfe Thompson.’ Shortly after, in the mid-1980s, a merger with Carlton Kirkpatrick and Co led to the name change to ‘Miller Metcalfe Kirkpatrick.
In 2005, after the sudden death of Andrew Thompson, Lesley Thompson’s brother, John Fletcher bought the business and became Chairman. Today, an unwavering passion, steadfast ambition and a mantra of, ‘work hard, play hard’ form the approach our proud team of ‘Mpeople’ aspire to. We recruit people who share our company values and our passion for delivering the best, creating a legacy we are proud of.
