App Description

The Regional Museum of Photography, was born from the need to return the CRICD's historical collections to public use.
The exhibition itinerary follows the chronological criterion starting on the mezzanine floor with the origins of photography (1839), continuing with the productions of the photographers heirs of the Grand Tour (1865-1930), the new visual language of Naturalism and Pictorialism, the photographic atelier and studio activity, the history of portraiture, the age of the Florios and Sicilian society.

On the upper floor we find three monographic rooms dedicated to great Sicilian photographers: Giuseppe Incorpora, Eugenio Interguglielmi, and Benedetto and Eugenio Bronzetti. One section is devoted to twentieth-century documentary photography, which offers evidence on urban architecture and Sicilian rural reality.

In two small rooms we find precious views of a now distant Palermo with the projection of films the "Inauguration of the Palermo-Italo Belgian tramway line" of 1912 and "The train journey from Verona to Palermo in 1931."
The exhibition itinerary includes prints, plates, albums of various workmanship, including some embellished in binding and equipped with comb-roller chimes, and photographic instruments.
The museum spaces are designed to overcome the static way of approaching the exhibits: virtual reconstructions, interactive touches and exhibits capable of returning complex content such as historical contexts or evidence of Sicily between the 1800s and 1900s.
A visit to the museum is thus not posed as a passive experience but an immersive and engaging journey.
