ABOUT OUR APPLICATION:

Hanyu Pinyin is a phonetic tool to learn Mandarin Chinese. It is a system that transliterates Chinese words into Roman alphabet. Though there are many other Romanization systems to learn Mandarin, Pinyin is the most widely used in the world. For many new students, learning Pinyin is the first step to successfully speaking fluent Mandarin Chinese.

KEY FEATURES:

MandarinXL (XL - Excel)– Hanyu Pinyin Edition is a simple, portable and entertaining way to learn Pinyin for both children and adults. To learn any new language, listening and practicing plays an integral part of the process. Mandarin XL not only provides the sounds for all the initial and final components of Pinyin with a simple touch of a button, it also allow students to record their own voice. Students can then compare their recording with that of the native speaker. Some standard phrases and the stress tones in Mandarin are also included in this application.

• Play back function allows individuals to gauge their progress.

USING THIS APPLICATION

To use this application, click one of the four (4) menu items (Initial, Final, Tone or Phrases) and then click a letter or phrase from the scrollable list below the menu. Next, click the Play button to hear the voice of the native speaker. Use Record button to record your voice, and then the Play Mine button to hear how close you are in pronunciation to the native speaker.


Requirements:
Compatible with iPhone and (for iTouch users, a mic is required to record your voice)
Requires iPhone and iTouch OS 3.0 or higher
