Sketches on a Movie Set

In the summer of 2019, Wim Wenders shot a short immersive 3D film in Butte, Montana entitled ‘Two or Three Things I Know About Edward Hopper’ as an homage to Edward Hopper. The installation will be presented during the expansive exhibition of Edward Hopper’s works at Fondation Beyeler in Basel in January 2020.

During the production of this 3D installation, I captured the precious moments of preparation before the slate snapped. The subject of my interest was the actors’ process during the short rehearsal time to find their posture, position, inner attitude and movement for the final frame.

For this App we produced a movie that is produced with hundreds of images to create four audiovisual sketchbooks.

I call the gathering of these black & white mostly long exposure photographs ‘Sketches on a Movie Set’.

There are three photographs taken from the installation as triggers for an Augmented Reality experience.

By scanning these photographs (which can also come from another user’s device of course) with the camera you can watch the corresponding video sketches. Those you cannot attend the exhibition can scratch off the photos inside the album to start the videos.
