App Description

The KLM Open has a world-first this year: ‘Beat the Pro!’. For the first time ever golf amateurs will play in a European Tour Tournament against golf professionals on one hole. We are extremely proud that this format has been accepted by the European Tour and hope this is an additional reason for many to visit the KLM Open 2016.

The winners of the ‘Beat the Pro!’ Challenge will play against professionals on a genuine stadium hole, completely surrounded with lounges and seats. A DJ will create a suitable atmosphere and visitors will be able to predict the winners of the ‘Closest to the Pin’ contest using the app built by IBM. KLM Open will provide prizes to win for those who predict the correct winner!

The App will offer golf spectators a smarter experience during the KLM Open 2016. It shows an interactive map of The Dutch golf course, including points of interests, player information, real-time player location and an interactive leaderboard. It allows visitors to create a list of favourite players and the app will provide access to tee times. The app also has the ability to listen to KLM Open Radio.

As its main feature, the App will offer instant access to the realtime location of all golf-flights on the course at any time during the tournament. It will show the golf-flights' positions as markers on the map and it allows the user to zoom in on a specific hole to get a detailed position of that golf-flight.

Tapping a flight’s marker will give an overview of the players in that flight, their real-time status of play and their ranking. Individual information about players is also instantly accessible, with the ability to create a list of your favourite players.

The main objective of the mobile app is to enhance the journey of everyone attending the KLM Open 2016 tournament, from the very beginning.
