Genshin Impact Guide - What to do When You Feel Stuck

To keep its open world challenging, Genshin Impact increases the strength of its enemies as you advance your Adventure Rank. The only somewhat troublesome thing about this system though is that it isn't dependent on the power of your adventurers. Your Adventure Rank advances for pretty much doing anything, even if those things don't directly make your team stronger. As a result, you can find yourself in a situation where your World Level bumps up suddenly to create a pretty tough difficulty spike to overcome.

In this situation, Genshin Impact can become frustrating, but there are ways out of it. It also should be a relatively quick fix, provided you've been careful about your currencies and have some to spare. Read on to learn more about what to do if you hit a World Level that suddenly feels overwhelming.

Don't rush to the gacha

The first thing to note about Genshin Impact's difficulty spikes is that there is no single character in the game that can completely solve every problem for you. In fact, pulling for a new, shiny five-star could exacerbate things. Even if you happen to pull your dream carry, they'll be starting at level 1, you'll have to invest a ton of time and resources getting them into fighting shape.

Because of this, you shouldn't immediately look to the virtual slot machine to solve your problems. It's a much better strategy to invest in who you already have built up instead of starting a new character build from scratch.

Go fail a domain challenge

Between character leveling, ascensions, weapons, artifacts, and talents, it can be hard to tell exactly what power gaps might need filling at any given time. As far as I know, the only way to really get in-game feedback about your relative strength is to enter the strongest level domain for your world level and fail it. Doing so brings up a screen that highlights your abilities relative to the challenge, and looking at this screen can give you a good idea of where you are lagging behind in terms of overall team strength.

If your characters seem too low level, you need to farm world bosses for ascension materials and experience ley lines to get them closer to your enemies' levels. If it's anything else, you need to run domains to get the artifacts, weapon ascension, or character talent materials to get your gear and abilities up to snuff. If the high level domains for these challenges seem too hard, feel free to bump the challenge down a level or two. If you're really lacking in some of these areas, even the lower level rewards will give you the things you need to progress.

Diversify your roster

Even if you're at the right power level for your World Level, certain challenges or bosses still may seem too tough. Oftentimes, this is suggests a lack of diversity in your roster. Elemental reactions are the most powerful forces in Genshin Impact, and if you don't have a cast of adventurers that can trigger them often, you should try to correct that.

This doesn't necessarily mean you need to start investing in leveling up other characters, either. You can always use underleveled adventurers to apply a certain status and then your carry to trigger a powerful reaction. Things like Vaporize and Melt can double your damage output, so make sure you take advantage of all the elements at your disposal!

Start cooking

Genshin Impact's cooking system can be a valuable tool for powering up your adventurers for certain challenges. Adeptus' Temptation is an especially powerful food item that can really boost your entire team's damage output. The good news about cooking dishes like this is that all of the ingredients for them need to be scavenged, bought, or processed, so you don't need to worry about fighting anything to get this boost.

This can be a good stop-gap solution as you try to gather more materials from world bosses or domains that seem just out of reach for your current power.

Play co-op

Aside from the Spiral Abyss (which just seems like endgame content designed to make you want to spend money), pretty much all of Genshin Impact is allows for cooperative multiplayer. Take advantage of this and hop into other people's worlds, accept invites, or matchmake in domain challenges to make things easier.

Even if your co-op partners are just as underpowered as you are, having multiple adventurers on the field of battle at once makes every combat scenario easier to manage. You can also hop into worlds of players that have a lower World Level, which can allow you to fight world bosses and overworld enemies at the same strength they were earlier in your time with the game.
