Well, once again we've reached Thursday, which means it's time to have a look at the awesome games that have popped up on the App Store over the past seven days. We've got horror, we've got vampires, and we've got at least one game we still don't really understand. So that's a first.
Obviously loads more games have come out this week, and there's a chance we might have missed something in our trawl of the App Store. If that's the case, and you know of another awesome game that people should be playing, do let us know in the comments section at the bottom of this article.
Fantasy football is massive, which is something the AAF understands. It's a new American Football league that's two weeks into its first season. It's designed to serve a number of different masters - for one thing it's positioned itself as a second chance league, a place where NFL players who didn't make the cut can play meaningful games and prove that they're worth another look.
But it's the technology that the league uses that we're going to have a look at today - namely the app that you can grab right now from the App Store or the Google Play Store. The reason we're interested? Because you can now play along with the games live, tracking moves and making predictions on the fly.
Even if you're not a fan of American Football, it's a really interesting new way to engage with sports that could well become more and more popular if the AAF manages to take off over the next few weeks.
How is it already Thursday again? My oh my, doesn't time fly when you're playing the very best mobile games out there? We certainly hope it does, because we've gone ahead and written a list of what we think are the top 5 best games for iPhone and iPad that have landed on the App Store over the last seven days.
This week we've got two very different platformers, a .io game that shouldn't be anywhere near as much fun as it is, as well as a couple of games that like to play by their own rules. They're all really good though, and if it was up to us you'd read this article and then go and play all of them and have a lovely old time.
Obviously this is quite a short list, and there are games out there that might fit the bill as well. That's where you come in - let us know your own recommendations in the comments section at the bottom of the article, that way we're all going to be able to find something to countdown the weeks and months until Apex Legends comes out with.
You've no doubt heard of Apex Legends by now. It's a new take on the battle royale genre developed by Respawn, and published by EA. It went live on EA Origin, PS4, and Xbox One last week, and it's already been generating a lot of buzz around the non-mobile gaming world. More interestingly though, it's also started a similar amount of buzz in the much more important mobile gaming world too.
That's because there's a very good chance that the game is going to be coming out for phones and tablets in the not-too-distant future. This isn't hyperbole either, it's straight from the horse's mouth. If the horse is EA and its mouth is a quarterly earnings call. Which, for the purposes of this article, they are.
It's that time again - Thursday has rolled around which means the latest batch of new mobile games has landed on the App Store. There's loads of them, like there always is, so we've taken steps to make sure you know which are the best games that have come out for iPhone and iPad over the last seven days. Those steps are basically writing, and then posting, this list.
We've picked what we think are the finest new gaming experiences for your shiny phone or tablet, and we've given you download links so you can grab them in the shortest amount of time possible. We've even written down why we think you're going to enjoy the games. What a wonderful service we're providing for you.
At first glance this one might look like a Clash Royale clone, but if you stick with it you're going to discover one of the finest PvP RTS experiences that the App Store has to offer. Collect twisted versions of fairytale heroes (the emperor from The Emperor's New Clothes is our personal favorite), and then battle with other teams to be the first to smash your opponent's bases.
A melancholic, slow game about a goat farm on the edge of a desert. You play an old woman who has to tend to the farm - milking the goats, collecting eggs, planting and tending to seeds, and dragging water out of the well at the edge of your property. All the while you're building up your routine, the world outside of the farm is starting to fall apart. This is a game that's definitely going to make you think.
Any game that channels Nitrome and Star Wars is fine by us. This is a short and sharp action platformer that sees you bouncing around a screen trying to push a button. That button stops the spikes at the top and bottom of the screen from closing in on you. The first few buttons are easy to push, but after that you're facing circular saws, more spikes, and a whole host of enemies too.
There might be a lot of card games out there in mobile gaming land, but we're always happy to see new ones coming along if they do something different. Elemancer feels like it's trying to fit in the space between Hearthstone and the more casual end of the market, and if it can build up a big enough player base, we're pretty excited to see what the game can do.
This is out leftfield choice of the week. It's a text-based adventure game set in 1920s England. Except it's a 1920s England where a strange black fog has descended and ominous and evil creatures are stalking the land. It's up to you to figure out what's going on. And, perhaps more importantly, stay alive. Thanks to all the choices you have to make here, no two playthroughs are ever going to be the same.
Word games can be a tricky genre to pin down. There are so many variations out there that sometimes it's hard to decide whether or not a game fits into the little pocket you're trying to push it into. That doesn't bother us though, because it's our job to do things like that. Which is why we've written this list of the best words game for iOS.
We're pretty sure we've picked five games that best represent every corner of the word game genre, from mystery to action, with a fat chunk of puzzling thrown in for good measure. Some of these games are going to make you think about the words you use in a completely different way, and we think that's something that should be shouted from the rooftops.
If you've got your own favorite word game that hasn't been included on the list, do let us know in the comments section at the bottom of the article. And if you click here you can check out all of the other lists on the site - each one is a work of exquisite beauty, even if we do say so ourselves. Right then, on with the word games.
Well this has come out of nowhere. Here we were, waiting with baited breath for the release of Mario Kart Tour, and Nintendo has gone and pulled the rug out from under us. The Italian plumber's next appearance on the App Store isn't going to involve carts, or karts for that matter - it's going to involve white coats and stethoscopes. Because Dr. Mario World is on its way to mobile.
The news dropped last night, and it's fair to say we're a bit shocked. It's been a good long while since Nintendo even released anything on mobile, after a splurge of games over the past couple of years, but we'd never even heard that Dr. Mario was on its way, let alone that it was going to overtake Mario Kart Tour to become the next big N franchise to make it onto the App Store.
Last week, Alien: Blackout landed on mobile. It's a pretty interesting take on the franchise that sees you playing as Ripley's daughter and guiding a team of rescuers through the xenomorph-infested corridors of a stricken space station. Think Five Nights at Freddy's but with Giger-designed monsters instead of animatronic teddy bears and you're getting there.
All of that made us think about the other games you can grab on the App Store that are based on best-selling pop culture franchises. We've picked three, but obviously there are way more out there. We'd love to hear if you've got your own, so do make your own suggestions in the comments section down at the bottom of the article.
On Friday we always have something really important to do. Namely, it's when we prepare you for the next seven days, letting you know what we think are going to be the top games coming out over the next week. Forewarned is forearmed after all, so consider this us throwing a bunch of arms at you. But not in a weird way.
It's a pretty short list this week, but we expect more games to sneak up on us over the weekend. While it might not be the longest list in the world, the games on it are shaping up to be really rather special.
It's that time of the week again - we're going to check out what we think are the top five games that have come out on the App Store over the last seven days. There are some big names on the list, some small names on the list, and some middle-sized names on the list. We're covering a lot of bases here, just saying.
Obviously if you've got your own suggestions we'd love to hear them. If it was up to us we'd make this list about 20 times longer, but we simply don't have the time, so adding your own ideas is going to fill us with a lovely kind of share-y joy.
What would happen if giant monsters were indestructible? Wait, let me rephrase that. What would happen if giant monsters were real and indestructible? The answer, according to Kaijack Card Attack, is that they'd play a gamw somewhere between solitaire and poker. While also smashing the crap out of everything.
The game comes from the dev behind Crap! I'm Broke, but you wouldn't guess by looking at it. There's a brightness here, from the scraps themselves to the backgrounds, and rather than worrying about making enough money to pay the rent, here you're worried about huge creatures smashing up your house. Whilst also being a giant creatue yourself.
There's a chance some of these games might not come out next week, such is the fickle nature of the mobile gaming beast, but we're pretty sure they're going to land when they said they would. And there might be other games we've not spotted coming out too - if you've seen any, do let us know in the comments section at the bottom of the article, we'd love to hear from you.
Every week here at 148Apps we like to make sure that you're up to date with all the awesome games that have come out for iPhone and iPad over the past 7 days. We pick the cream of the crop to ensure that you don't have to play anything boring and broken. That's our job - you can let us sort out the wheat from the chaff while you have a nice cup of coffee and put your feet up.
This week we've got free to play games, we've got premium games, and we've got games where you can fall off a mountain. And if that wasn't enough there's a game where you can steal the Mona Lisa, and another one where you can shoot aliens into gory little puddles. What a week we're having.
Sometimes you want to play a game where you don't really have to do anything. Don't worry, we're not here to judge you, we're exactly the same. We love some action when we're in the right mood, but sometimes we want something a little more chill - something that lets us turn our brains off when we pick it up. Which is why we've written this list of our three favorite idle games for iOS.
These are the games that really got under our skin, be it because of the compulsion loops they generate, or the simple fact that they're a brilliant slice of distracting fun. Obviously, with this being a short list, there's a good chance that you're not going to see some of the games you'd pick on it. That's cool though, we'd still love to hear about them, so let us know what they are in the comments section at the bottom of the article.
