App Description

The RCMP Heritage Centre is dedicated to telling the story of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The Centre is appropriately located on the grounds of RCMP Academy “Depot” Division in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, which has been training Recruits, and now Cadets, from across Canada since 1885.

Use this self-guided audio tour with your own device when visiting the RCMP Heritage Centre to explore the permanent exhibit galleries, which chronicle the evolution of the North West Mounted Police (NWMP) to the modern day RCMP recognized the world over.

This tour is narrated from the perspective of Sam Steele, the third member to join the NWMP in 1873 and one of Canada’s most famous Mounties. During Steele’s illustrious career he was in the first troop to march west, an intricate part of establishing the NWMP’s headquarters, as well as a foothold on the prairies; and in charge of maintaining law and order during the Yukon Gold Rush. He left the Force in the early 1900’s to fight in the Boer War in South Africa.

This audio tour starts in the Regimental Lobby and takes you through the following galleries: Creating a Mounted Police Force, March of the Mounties Exhibit, Maintaining Law and Order in the West, Protecting the North, and Serving all of Canada.
