There are some great filters and effects within this photography app, but it struggles with a temperamental interface.

It's quite awkward to use at times, but persevere and Photo Studio HD offers some fun and convenient filters and effects that can be applied to one's photographs quickly.

The app initially seems pretty straightforward. Users either choose to take a photo from within the app or import them before being presented with a plethora of options. These options are frequently quite useful. It's possible to add effects that turn an image into a film reel for instance, as well as apply various different color effects. Besides typical framing effects, it's possible to change images into a sort of curved shape - proving quite attractive and certainly different from conventional methods.

The options continue too, with the usual bunch of abilities in which users can enhance their photos or remove red-eye. Photo Studio HD does a great job of being one of those photography apps where one can just as easily apply one straightforward effect as they can spend ages making subtle tweaks. Each effect doesn't take long to apply either, further adding to the reasons to use it.

This all sounds great and it so very nearly is. Unfortunately, Photo Studio HD is a little obtuse in terms of implementation. For instance, when moving between options it asks to apply the filter before moving on. That sounds fine, right? The problem is the prompt doesn't vanish once applied. Instead, users have to close that box before re-tapping on the next part of the app when they want to progress. Initially it's confusing, making one wonder if the effect has actually been applied. Eventually though, it's just clumsy.

Other irritants like that also arise, making Photo Studio HD seem not so great. It is, but it does take a bit of patience to truly understand the illogical way it does things. Filters wise, I'm happy to keep with Photo Studio HD for a time thanks to it offering certain filters I can't find elsewhere. However in a cluttered genre, it's something to be acutely aware of before purchasing. The app really should be more straightforward than this.
