Ever wanted to race submarines under the sea? Probably not, but in case that appeals Depths has it covered. It's a game squarely focused on players completing a course in as quick a time as possible. It's kind of fun, but it's also quite forgettable in the long term.

Depths is easy to pick up at least. Controls are simply a matter of holding a finger on the place that one wants to navigate towards while waiting for the submarine to catch up. There are no tilt controls, but for once these would probably have worked quite well. Instead, holding a finger to the screen feels oddly removed from the general experience.

Each level involves going from A to B to reach the exit, but it also involves collecting coins and treasure within a set time limit. It's not essential to do anything other than reach the exit but more stars are awarded for doing particularly well. Depths offers other obstacles such as doors that must be opened by tapping on a switch. There are enemies too, which must be dodged in order to finish the level within a decent time. Encountering a giant shark is pretty cool, but such surprise moments aren't as frequent as one would like.

That's the problem with Depths. The requisite elements are all there but it lacks a certain sense of excitement to it. There are power-ups to use to make the process smoother, purchasable via the coins gained in game, but they still don't really excite. 20 levels are available for Depths and it seems a reasonable amount before one tires of the concept. It's a shame there's not more personality to the game, though.
