Pranayama is a key branch of yoga that deals exclusively with breathing. Human respiration occurs largely involuntary and tends to be taken for granted in everyday life.

In yoga we learn to breathe consciously and try to make each breath longer and deeper. Deep and even breathing calms the nervous system and reduces stress.

You can use this Pranayama app to relieve stress in everyday life, to train your breathing and to learn about how your body works.

Richard Hackenberg takes you through three exercises in this app: spinal, Nadi Shodana and Ujjayi breathing. You can choose to listen to his exercises with or without background sounds.

Richard has been practicing asanas, pranayama and meditation for over thirty-five years in Germany. For seventeen years he has been teaching yoga, organising seminars on pranayama, anatomy and yoga therapy and training yoga teachers.
