App Description

The Perception Academy Quest takes students through a series of linked activities that focus on brain disorders and how they affect what we perceive and how we respond to the world around us. Students move through the periods of a school day as though they have one of the perception disorders detailed in the Oliver Sacks book The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat. Students master excerpts from this difficult non-fiction text, building on their close reading and detailed writing skills.

The Quest is structured like a good thriller: First, students recognize that something is amiss with the way they are perceiving the world, but they don’t understand what it is; next, they read the Oliver Sacks excerpts to learn about and explore what is “happening” to them; and finally they widen and deepen their understanding of brain disorders by working collaboratively.

This is the student-facing app. This app needs to be used together with “Perception Quest Teacher”, which serves as a teacher guide for this classroom experience.

PERCEPTION QUEST WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU HAVE AN AMPLIFY LOGIN AND LICENSE PROVIDED BY A SCHOOL. You can download the app without a login, but you will not be able to use the app without a valid Amplify login. Educational institutions can contact Amplify for more information.
