Danish Festival began in 1965 when Mrs. Dorothy Oliver suggested that a day be set aside to honor the Danish heritage that the city of Greenville enjoys. Today there are 22 Board of Directors, one full time staff member, over 35 committees and hundreds of volunteers that are responsible for developing and presenting the festival which draws crowds of over 80,000.
