=========================
Why does this matter?
Preservatives and emulsifiers are chemicals added to foods to stabilize the taste, texture, and nutritional value during storage. Unfortunately, some of the most commonly used preservatives like nitrates and nitrites are associated with an increased risk of cancer. Emulsifiers disrupt the natural environment of the digestive tract, which is associated with a host of digestive issues including inflammatory bowel disease.
Artificial sweeteners and other sugar substitutes are used to provide sweetness with fewer calories or sweetness at the lowest cost by substituting High Fructose Corn Syrup for cane sugar. Artificial sweeteners have been a source of controversy since their introduction. Some sweeteners such as aspartame and saccharin are associated with an increased risk of cancer. Other sweeteners, such as the ones in the FODMAP family, can cause significant digestive system issues like nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
Food dyes are chemicals added to foods to provide or enhance color. Some of these dyes are associated with a small risk of cancer, neurological injury, hyperactivity, and other problems.
Potentially GMO ingredients are identified from the list published by the Non-GMO project to help you identify ingredients that may be GMO. The safety and health impact of GMO foods is controversial, so many people try to limit the use of GMO-containing foods
