Starting the year 1936, the film making in Odisha begun with its first talkie movie Sita Bibaha. There after it took some time for the industry to cntinue its movie making and after 1950 the industry started giving movies in good numbers. Prasanta Nanda is one of the finest actor, director and producer of Odia Films. His first debut movie Nua Bou won him many recognition including national award. Actors like Sriram Panda, Bijay Mohanty, Uttam Mohanty, Sarat Pujari, Mihir Das, Hara Patanaik, Dukhiram Swain, Jairam Samal, Sidhanta Mahapatra, Aparajita Mohanty, Mahesweta Ray, Tandra Ray, Bhanumati Devi, Rachana Banerjee, etc. made the industry proud for its contribution to Odisha and Odia people at large.
