In the story mode, the opening cutscene has that weird, almost creepy, 50s sci-fi movie feel. Like most tower defense games, the story mode slowly adds more towers to the arsenal, satellites in this case, to ease the player into learning the game. The player places various satellites in orbit around bases they are meant to protect. The orbits are moveable and the satellites continue firing even while the orbits are being moved. This unique orbit system completely changes the feeling during gameplay from a traditional, sit-back tower defense to an engaging, active game.
To add to the craziness of constantly moving the orbits, the paths of the enemy ships are always different, even within waves. They’re curving lines that can take a roundabout path to the base or go nearly straight at it, making the player move the satellites often. To top it off, asteroids start coming at the base and satellites from all directions. Asteroids can severely damage both the base and satellites. I’m also fairly sure I saw one destroy an enemy ship as well.
I enjoyed the arcade mode more than the storyline. Cutscenes during the storyline are great, but I like the ‘endless wave’ feel of the arcade mode. While traditional to tower defense games, the endless wave game tends to result in the most challenging and enjoyable experience.
Unstoppable Gorg is a must-have app for any tower defense or sci-fi fan. Now go download the app and protect the Earth from UFOs!
