Photo Zen aims to be an all-in-one solution for all your photo editing needs. It mostly fulfils that too, although it’s not the most stylish of apps to use and it lacks Universal support.

In terms of options, Photo Zen is plentiful. 13 categories are at your disposal, each with many more options within. Starting out, you have plenty of filters to apply but Photo Zen gets more involved than that. Unfortunately, there’s no live preview for the filters, but you can change most other things on the fly.

Adjustments such as saturation and hue are simple enough here, via a sliding scale. You can also adjust blurring and focusing too, with the usual supply of cropping and rotation options. Where Photo Zen gets more interesting is through stickers, emoticons, and text options. You can easily throw in some cute stickers or smiley faces, as well as include your own captions. A plentiful supply of color adjustments also mean you can manipulate how an image turns out.

Two problems do arise for Photo Zen, however. It really does look quite basic and old fashioned in places, rather than the usual stylish look we’re all accustomed to with photography apps nowadays. More crucially, it’s quite slow on the uptake. It takes a moment or two to apply any effects and after a time, you’ll find yourself a little put off by this.

Photo Zen has the basics finely organized and it's a mostly all-in-one solution. I couldn’t think of anything that I felt was sorely lacking, except for maybe some easy to use sharing options. That’s the thing about this app; it needs some refinement and improvement to be a real must-have. An improved interface and a speed boost would make all the difference here. Still, it does offer some handy solutions for free.
