A kendang or gendang is a two-headed drum used by people from the Indonesian Archipelago. The kendang is one of the primary instruments used in the gamelan ensembles of Javanese, Sundanese, and Balinese music. It is also used in various Kulintang ensembles in Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines.
Dangdut drums on the ketipung paralon instrument which are commonly used by street buskers based on the organology of the material and how it is made. Ketipung paralon is played by hitting the membrane through pressure and finger techniques from both hands. When compared to dangdut drums, the ketipung paralon has a loud acoustic character when beaten, even without using a loudspeaker. The paralon ketipung instrument is also easy to carry and play to move places by buskers.
