The Hive is a family run business established in the bustling market town of Shepton Mallet, Somerset (UK). The “Craft Café” was launched in 2014 and merged the family’s longstanding haberdashery and craft business which had grown since 1985, with the new café – the next generation of the family – serving professionally prepared fresh food using the finest quality locally sourced ingredients.
With a unique mix of crafting and casual dining, The Hive is a fantastic meeting point to enjoy a wholesome meal with family or a coffee and a chat with an old friend, paired with the opportunity to learn new skills, hints & tips from each other.
Owner, and Head Chef, Michael, completed extensive chef training in all sections of the kitchen and Patisserie in Bristol, Chepstow and France. Michael still has fond memories of misty early mornings in the vineyard kitchens of Saint-Emilion, Bordeaux making & proving enriched bread, and piping choux pastry. On his return the UK, Michael was awarded two AA Rosettes of Excellence for the Fine Dining Restaurant at the Marriott Hotel in central Bristol.
At The Hive we offer rich roasted freshly ground coffee, blended especially for us by the Clifton Coffee Company, speciality teas, velvety smooth hot chocolate and real ice-cream milkshakes, alongside homemade cakes, pastries and sweet treats, handmade sandwiches, toasted paninis, pasta salads and our famous homemade quiche, served throughout the day, 6 days a week (Closed on Sunday’s.)
Indulge in a luxurious treat by booking an Afternoon Tea with us, presented on 3 tiers and including a savoury sandwich selection, a variety of delicious cakes, and homemade scones with jam and clotted cream, plus your favourite hot or cold drink.
Afternoon teas are available for group bookings such as hen parties, baby showers and WI (Women’s Institute) gatherings. Afternoon tea treat boxes are also available to take away, these are fantastic gifts for anniversaries and birthdays, or just to enjoy in the local Collett Park.
You are sure to receive a warm welcome in store, whether enjoying a laidback lunch or browsing the haberdashery for a new craft project. We stock a vast selection of wool for knitting & crochet, and an ever-changing fabric collection for crafting, quilting and homeware projects. There is also an extensive range of ribbons, lace, trims and braids in varying sizes and colours, over 1000 buttons in stock and all your haberdashery requirements are catered for too.

We regularly host “Crafternoons” of needle felting, flower arranging and jewellery making workshops, as well as sewing lessons, knitting & crochet groups and an evening “Meet & Make” session.
