App Description

Plant List GPS is all about digital plant lists. Digital plant lists have advantages over paper plant lists in that they are easy to create, maintain and can hold more information about plants and their GPS location without a separate GPS app. Most importantly, digital plant lists are easy to maintain and share. Clubs, plant societies, garden and landscape professionals along with educators will appreciate the better access to plant information.

Plant List GPS has 3 main types of information:

1) Plant lists which holds a collection of plants dictionary entries and marker references.
2) Plant dictionary entries which holds information about the plant.
3) Markers which holds GPS location and observation information.',

Plant Dictionary

The plant dictionary holds detail information about plants. Plant lists and markers both refer to entries in the plant dictionary. In order for a plant to added to a plant list or marker, it first must exist in the plant dictionary. Because plant dictionary information is held in a central location, changes to the plant information, like adding a common name, are seen wherever the plant is used throughout the app.

When plant lists are shared, plant dictionary entries accompanies the plant list. If a plant is not on the destination device, the plant is added to plant dictionary. Should the plant exist with difference information, then a second dictionary entry is added preserving your plant information. Sharing plant lists is a fast way to build up your plant dictionary.

Markers

Markers entries contain GPS location and observation information. A marker can also be a land feature such as a trail head, parking lot or navigational waypoint. Plant markers have data fields to store plant population data. For example 5 plants in a 10 ft circle, or hundreds in a field north of the road. When viewing a plant list, you switch between plants and markers with a single icon tap. You can also also easily see what markers exist of a particular plant or how many plant list contain a particular plant.

Markers have a "Share" and a "Do Not Share" attribute. When you have a marker that you do not want to share for any number of reasons, you can set this attribute to "Do Not Share" and where it can be excluded from sharing and PDF reports.'

When internet connectivity is available, you can send markers to Google maps where you can start navigation to guide you to that location.',

Plant Lists

Plant lists contain both plants and markers. When displaying the list of plants, tapping marker icon at the top right of the screen switches to the list of markers. Tapping the flower icon returns to the list of plants. From the lists you can edit the plant list information. When deleting a list, plant dictionary items are deleted provided the plant or marker is not on another list. Sharing a plant list is a way for backup a plant list and later importing the list.

Plant lists can be combined allowing the creation of smaller plant lists and later combining them into larger collections. For example, a number of people can be creating and collecting plant list information in the field. At a later time, all lists can be shared and combined for a more complete plant list.

Sharing and Importing

Plant lists and markers can be imported into Plant List GPS via a CSV file allowing plant lists to be created using spreadsheet apps. In addition, a specialized CSV import process is provided for users of SEINet. SEINet is a web based plant information database containing millions of plant entries. Using SEINet, you can build plant lists by location or plant attributes without having to key in data.',

Plant lists and markers can be exported to a PDF file for printing. Three types of PDF reports are provided. Markers can be exported to a GPX file as input to navigation software.
