The unit for energy in the International System of Units (SI) is the joule, which has the symbol J.
Gravitational potential energy and the mass and height of an object are described by the following equation:
PE grav. = m * h * g
Where:
m - mass
h - height
g - the gravitational field strength (9.81 on Earth)
