App Description

As the commonest raptor of Hong Kong, Black Kite can easily be seen in the sky of Hong Kong. Black Kite is a medium sized raptor and its population reaches the highest during the winter time. It is a scavenger and one of the main food sources for Black Kite in Hong Kong is food waste.

Started from January 2016, South East New Territories (SENT) Landfill only accepting construction waste entering the site, which means no food waste will be allowed to dispose in the SENT anymore. We would like to know how this change will affect the black Kites of Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Black Kite survey mobile phone application aims to monitor the Black Kites among Hong Kong after the SENT stopped receiving food waste. By using the application, user can record the number, the locations and the behaviours of Black Kites in Hong Kong.

The data received in the application will be used to investigate the impacts of the termination of food waste collection in SENT to the distribution and behaviours of Black Kites in Hong Kong.
