Music fans, understandably, love to be ahead of the curve. After all, how exciting is it to discover new music before anyone else? What’s even better is finding great new music nearby, and that’s exactly what huurd.it offers. It’s a music discovery tool that’s gradually growing in popularity, allowing one to find great new music wherever they are.

Working much like a social networking app, artists can ‘drop’ a track onto their current location allowing anyone to discover it along the way. It’s possible to ‘drop’ a track anywhere in the world although the idea behind huurd.it is that users place tracks near their location so that others can discover local music. Interacting with such things is easily done with users able to learn more about artists through their profiles, as well as like or share tracks. For the artist, it’s possible to include website, Twitter, Facebook, and email details, so that fans can interact elsewhere. Besides being able to discover things via location, there’s a charts feature too, enabling one to dive into what’s currently most popular amongst other huurd.it users.

huurd3huurd5huurd.it is an app that leans towards being most useful to budding artists. After all, it’s free promotion and there’s always that hope that someone important could be listening, but that doesn’t prevent it from being useful for others, too. It’s a convenient way to discover new music, and while sometimes that music isn’t of a great standard, other times there are some great hidden gems in there. Plus, there’s the added social side of feeling more in-touch with local culture and interests.

Starting out small and focused on London, huurd.it could do with a stronger community but it offers the requisite elements to get that far one day – and it’s certainly an interesting insight into the music being created by unknown artists.
