It’s a difficult time for fans of Steve Jackson’s Sorcery! series, as Part 4 has been officially delayed until this Thursday. Developer Inkle decided it would be best to push the game back so as not to be overshadowed by last week’s iOS 10 release. That’s actually pretty smart, if you think about it! We want the best for Sorcery!, so we can stand to wait a bit longer, but it will be tough. What do we do in the meantime?

Why not explore some of the other fine storytelling adventures on mobile? There’s a lot of great interactive fiction out there—here are our recommendations!

Reigns

+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad
Released: 2016-08-12 :: Category: Game

$2.99

Reigns conquered the App Store when it released back in August. It’s a card game, in which you draw a card with a decision to make, and swipe left or right to choose yes or no, ruling your kingdom in the process.

There’s all sorts of juicy politicking in the vein of Game of Thrones with, curiously enough, Tinder mechanics thrown in, but it also has a sharp sense of humor that will keep you grinning.

Out There: Ω Edition

+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad
Released: 2014-02-27 :: Category: Game

$4.99

A remake of Mi-Clos Studio’s choose your own space adventure, Out There pairs a deep story with gorgeous comic book art.

You’re a lone astronaut in space, exploring alien planets and tending to your ship as you make your way throughout the galaxy. You’ll have to make decisions as you parlay with alien races and gather resources. Survival is the key, here, and any missteps could be deadly.

Lifeline...

+ Universal & Apple Watch App - Designed for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch
Released: 2015-04-20 :: Category: Game

$2.99

Keeping with the space theme, writer Dave Justus (Fables: The Wolf Among Us, anyone?) brings us this tale of a woman named Taylor stranded on an alien moon. You are her only tie to home, and message back and forth with the crash-landed astronaut via her communicator.

It makes for an eerily intimate experience as you fight to help Taylor survive. The story’s branching paths means there are many ways the narrative can play out. For extra immersion, this game is compatible with wearable devices.

Heroes Rise: The Prodigy

+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad
Released: 2012-07-18 :: Category: Game

$4.99

Here’s a fun change of pace. Heroes Rise lets you assume the role of a fledgling superhero, as you work your way up the ranks to become a true crime-fighting legend. You can ally yourself with a band of other champions or operate as a lone agent, take on your rivals, and even choose a romantic partner.
If you enjoy this entry, you’ll be happy to know the Heroes franchise has expanded into multiple series, so there’s plenty more super hero excitement to be had!

To Be Or Not To Be -Ryan North

+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad
Released: 2015-03-18 :: Category: Game

$6.99

Tin Man Games is no stranger to the gamebook genre, and To Be or Not to Be is one of their finest projects. It’s a goofy take on Shakespeare’s Hamlet, letting you play as a number of different characters from the famous play.

You can be Hamlet, of course, but there’s also Ophelia, who just so happens to be a scientist (awesome) with a weakness towards water. Or start off as King Hamlet Sr., who, as you know, dies right off the bat, so that will be a quick playthrough.

None of these adventures really strike your imagination the way Sorcery! did? Well, why not give the first three Sorcery! games a quick playthrough before Sorcery! Part 4 finally launches at the end of the week? Inkle is offering each game for .79/$.99 each in the days leading up to Part 4’s release.
