Psychologists say "Beauty is just the average".
Is that true?

This App synthesizes 'average faces' by blending facial images based on a morphing algorithm.

/// How to use this app ///

(1) Find an image and import it to the app

Find a face image using a web browser. Ideal images have following features;
• High quality images.
• Front view face images (Mona Lisa is NOT a very ideal image but it is usable).

(1-1) Using a copied image

If copying the image on a web browser is possible, copy it and then tap 'Open Face Image' button of the average face app.

The app should show 'Paste' option. Tap 'Paste'.

(1-2) If copying an image is not possible

You can use an image stored in your device's photo library. Back to the app and tap 'Open Face Image' button. Then, tap 'Choose from Library' option.

(2) Cropping the image

After importing an image, a Cropping View is shown. The average face app tries to show a face at the center of the Cropping View, but you can adjust the position and/or the size of the face manually.

Tap 'Done' button to continue.

(3) Recognized Accurately?

The app tries to recognize facial features. If the recognition is successful and accurate, markers are shown along the facial contour, eyebrows, eyes, nose, and mouth.

A coarse placement of fewer markers suggests that the app failed to recognize the facial features accurately. In such cases, markers should be placed manually.

(4) Register the face
You should check the accuracy of the placement of the markers. If you find a marker that is out of an ideal place, adjust its position by dragging it.

If you find no problem, tap 'Register this face' button (or 'Average' button).

Images registered to this app are called 'Face Data'.

(5) Add more faces and average them
Open another face and adjust marker positions if necessary. Register the 2nd face by tapping 'Average' button. You will see an average of the first and the 2nd faces.

Add the 3rd and later faces via the same procedure. Psychological studies have shown that averaging many faces can generate highly attractive facial appearance. Is that true?

This app uses images opened on the app by a user's own will from the photo library or the pasteboard of the user's device. A user may use photographs taken by using a camera of the user's device under the control of this app. The control of the camera is enabled only if it is permitted by the user, and the user can revoke the permission by using Setting app of the user's device.

How information is used
This app measures colors/luminance of each location on a face, locations of facial features (eyes, eyebrows, nose, mouth, facial contour, etc) under the assumption that an image includes a face independently of whether or not the image actually includes a face. Measured information is used to synthesize a facial average. A morphing algorithm implemented in the app is used for the synthesis. This is a stand alone app that works only on a user's device; it does not depend on an outside server. Therefore, information used in this app are protected from unauthorized use, disclosure or access.

How images are stored and retained.
All images provided by a user and images synthesized by the app are stored inside the app in order to protect them from unauthorized use, disclosure or access. Only the method to output the synthesized images is to save them to the photo library of a user's device. Saving the images to the photo library is enabled only if it is permitted by a user, and it is conducted only based on a user's own will. A user can revoke the permission to use the photo library by using Setting app of the user's device. The images in the app are retained until a user delete them by using the app's functionalities to do so, or delete the app from the user's device.
