Great Medical Encyclopedia: Soviet original scientific reference book for physicians, practitioners, research and teaching activities. 1 st edition BME in 35 vols. (1928-36) Ed. Semashko was the first complete national medical encyclopedia. Results of medical science and health over the next few years summed up the 2 nd edition of BME in 36 vols. (1956-64), edited by Academician ANBakulev. This edition contains a 13,651 page, 24,227 illustrations. As the authors of the articles was drawn about 3 thousand Soviet scientists and doctors, a number of articles written by scientists from other socialist countries. Edition 2 of the first edition of BME - about 100 thousand copies.
