App Description

WEST OF KABUL, EAST OF NEW YORK by Tamim Ansary (unabridged) is presented by Blackstone Audio and comes with what is perhaps the best audiobook app available (see FEATURES, below).

“[Ansary] tells truths about dislocation, heritage, home, family, and religion that both affirm life and profoundly sadden….Worth any reader's time.” (Library Journal)

Born to an Afghan father and American mother, Ansary grew up in Afghanistan and then immigrated to San Francisco, thinking he'd left Afghan culture behind forever. But when world events put his two home cultures in conflict, he embarked on a passionate personal journey to unite his divided self.

Self-contained, this audiobook app is perfect for your commute, on a trip, or while relaxing. Based on a library-quality recording, this app was built especially for your iPhone and iPod Touch. No unreadable text, no endless scrolling on a tiny screen. The audio is of higher-than-normal quality, making for a great listening experience that will not tire your ears or grate on your nerves.

NOTICE: This app includes the exact same 5-star recording offered elsewhere at much higher prices. It was professionally recorded by Blackstone Audio’s narrator, Tamim Ansary. You are not buying yet another amateur or volunteer narration. No clicks, background noises, throat clearing, mispronunciations, tinny voices or monotones will be found here.

“…Ansary's low-key reading adds a humanizing tone.” (AudioFile)

The day after the World Trade Center was destroyed, Tamim Ansary sent an anguished e-mail to twenty friends discussing the attack from his perspective as an Afghan American. The message reached millions.
Born to an Afghan father and American mother, Ansary grew up in the intimate world of Afghan family life. When he emigrated to San Francisco, he believed he'd left Afghan culture behind forever. But at the height of the Iranian Revolution, he took a harrowing journey through the Islamic world to rediscover his roots. In the years that followed, he struggled to unite his divided self and to find a place in his imagination where his Afghan and American identities might meet.
Here in his own words is one man’s personal journey through two cultures in conflict.
