A virtual exhibition of recent works of Jolijn Boxhoorn, these paintings have a vague figurative presence: there is stillness and there is movement. In comparison to her earlier paintings, this new powerful work has stronger colours and looser brushwork.
Navigating through her paintings, we see ‘emotion’ run through as a red thread and we are invited to feel in these works a sense of the uncomfortable, of invisible power and -sounds.
It's when entering her world that we sense how, although beautiful, some faded flowers leave the impression of a fight for life, the fear of dying. As an unavoidable part of the cycle of
nature.
