[rating:overall]

Super Tiny Leap is a really fun and novel game that reverses the game mechanics commonly associated with similar platform jumping games. Instead of moving up the level by controlling a character, players actually place platforms for a robot to jump on.

Players cannot directly control the robot, but rather they can place platforms wherever they want by tapping the screen. The robot jumps around in a somewhat predictable fashion and will automatically jump on any platforms and off walls. So all players have to do is skillfully place platforms below the robot and in its jumping path so it doesn’t fall off the bottom of the screen.

Players have a limited number of platforms they can place in the regular game mode and in order to replenish their supply, players need the robot to touch white floating squares with numbers on them. Besides collecting more platforms, players need to be sure that the robot does not hit any mines that are littered throughout the environment.

Besides the basic mode there is also a binary and “xtrem” mode. In binary mode, two robots are jumping around. Besides just keeping them from falling off the bottom of the screen, players have to avoid having them collide. However, there is no limit on the number of platforms players can place. In “xtrem” mode, the level has a ton of mines strewn throughout. Thankfully, just like in the binary game mode, players have an infinite amount of platforms, so there’s no need to worry about collecting more.

The graphics and sounds in Supy Tiny Leap are superb and create a really neat vibe. The graphics have a retro, pixelated feel to them, but they don’t look blocky. The soundtrack and sound effects are also very reminiscent of retro arcade games.

Although Super Tiny Leap is free in the app store, the free version is limited to 25 plays per day. Those evaporated quickly for me because when I first started playing I would die really quickly. To get unlimited plays and the full version of the game, players need to pay $0.99.

Since Super Tiny Leap is free, I highly recommend people download and try it out. I think $0.99 for the full version of the game is great deal. This is an innovative and different app and there aren’t any others like it that I know of.
