Shape It really is the best kind of action puzzler; it doesn’t bog you down with 3D craziness and the concept is fairly simple. All you have to do in Shape It is to make shapes and lines between like-colored pegs. Sure, there is a timer, levels, and a buzz saw trying to kill your shapes, but those are all details. Semantics.
Ok, so Shape It really is a pretty challenging game if you plan on getting past the first few levels. Each level in Shape It presents you with a bigger and bigger board and more and more different colored pegs. As you play, there is an ominous little timer that fizzles out as you go, and can only be replenished with the formation of a shape. The rules of shape building are simple; your lines have to go horizontally (no vertical lines here!) and can never touch the same peg twice. Past that, it’s up to you to get more and more creative with your shapes. Just watch out for that buzz saw.
The real fun in Shape It, at least for me, is to try to master the 9 “it” shapes that are included in the game. Hitting them while shape building scores you huge points, huge time bonuses, and a good deal of personal satisfaction. Missing the shape because your finger accidentally meandered onto another peg, causing you to be stuck with a 6 Line instead of an “it” shape though has quickly become one of the most frustrating things ever. As my only major complaint though (and it’s probably due to my lack of skill), I can’t be too mad.
If you like casual puzzle games and have an extra $1.99 laying around the bank account, be sure to give Shape It a try. On a scale of moose nugget to chicken nugget, Shape It is definitely in the realm of Wendy’s (and yes, that’s a good thing).
