Pillboxie isn’t the most fascinating of apps but it can potentially be extremely useful. It’s an app that aims to help you remember to take your medication and at the right times. Unfortunately for many, there are a lot of pills that need to be taken on a daily basis. Things can get pretty complex.

Pillboxie has a very simple interface to learn. A tap of the add button and you can enter the medication name as well as adjust its look to match the pill color. Then it’s a simple matter of tapping schedule and dragging the pill to the relevant virtual pillbox, just like you would with a real pillbox. You can choose from a variety of different reminder sounds, each of which are quite pleasant to listen to. What’s there all works quite well. The problem lies in what’s missing.

For instance, you can’t set reminders for any time other than on the hour. There are only pill images so even though you can still enter liquid details, it’s not as aesthetically pleasing as with pills. You can’t export the medication details by emailing them or even printing directly, which would have been really useful. Finally, you can’t enter any information other than medication names. It would have been nice for a note feature to be included so that you can input other pertinent pieces of information such as dosage.

Despite these failings though, Pillboxie isn’t bad. Solely as a reminder app, it does the job just fine and its attractive appearance is a nice touch. It just could have been so much better with some of the above features implemented. For some people, it will be ideal but if you need more complicated options, you’re going to feel rather restricted.
